Bylaws Amendments:
  • At a Glance - Your Vote Matters!

    • Eight questions - do you vote FOR or AGAINST proposed changes in Section _ to the Bylaws of Stargate Charter School?

    • 30% of voters must vote for results to be ratified

    • 67% of ballots cast must be in favor of the amendment for it to pass

    • Proposed amendments can not be made by the Board alone - they must go through the community election process

  • Every parent/guardian is eligible to vote (not just 1 vote per household)

Why is the Board Proposing Changes?
To ensure that our bylaws continue to serve Stargate's needs, the Board has recommended revisions, consistent with best practices for school governance and requirements outlined in our current Bylaws. But, many of these changes can ONLY be made by a vote of our community members. You can review the Board's proposed changes via the links below, including the rationale for each. Even if you don't normally vote in elections, we hope you will participate in this one.

Results

Election results are typically posted the evening of the last day of the voting period on the election results page. In addition, an email announcement will typically be made to Stargate stakeholders within 24 hours after results are ratified by the Election Committee.

General Election Information

The School's Board of Directors and School Accountability Committee are filled by elected positions. Elections are held twice per year to fill any open positions for these groups. Generally, positions for the Board of Directors are filled in the spring, and openings for Accountability are filled in the fall.

Each parent and staff member can vote in Stargate elections but they are only allowed one vote per election (i.e. you cannot vote for each child that you have in Stargate).

The Recruiting Committee is responsible for announcing the election and assembling a list of candidates for open positions.

The Election Committee coordinates the logistics of the election process such as creating the ballot, providing voters with instructions on how to vote, tracking results and announcing the results.

Voting

Stargate elections are conducted in an electronic format only. Ballot instructions and a ballot hyperlink for voting are sent prior to the opening of the election period to the stakeholder email address on file in Infinite Campus. Eligible voters who do not receive a ballot may contact [email protected].

Email Addresses - It is the responsibility of each eligible parent/guardian voter to ensure that their Infinite Campus profile includes a valid, current and unique email address. Contact information should be validated 30 days prior to each election. Ballots can not be sent to an address that is incorrect, obsolete, or shared. Ballot instructions for faculty and staff are sent to their work email address.

Eligible Voters - In Board elections, open seats are voted on by both parents/guardians and Stargate full-time staff members. In School Accountability Committee elections, parent seats are voted on by eligible parent/guardian members of the Stargate Community and staff seats are voted on by eligible staff members of the Stargate Community. In SAC elections, parent/guardian members who are also full-time staff members may vote for both parent and staff seats.

Paperless Voting - Stargate adopted Paperless Voting in Spring 2018. To find out more, check out our FAQ on Paperless Voting.

Election Archive

Election results are ratified by the Election Committee and sent to the Stargate Board of Directors. An election results archive is maintained in the Board minutes and can also be accessed via the Election Results page.
