-Students should check in to their homerooms 15 minutes before they perform. -There is no need to arrive earlier than check in time, unless you want to help with set up or see more than one part of the show. -When in the multipurpose room, students who are not performing should stay with their parents. -Students should leave all personal belongings with their parents. -It's okay to leave when your portion of the concert is over. However, you are also welcome to stay. -Please do not enter or exit the multipurpose room during musical numbers. -THANK YOU for your help!!!
WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE FEBRUARY 24 CONCERT: Since there is no particular theme to the 2-24 concerts, students should dress in black and white. If you do not have black and white attire, just dress nicely.
-Kindergarteners are finishing up 6-week grades. -5th and 6th graders are finishing up trimester grades. -7-8 Guitar students are working with music written in standard notation. -7-8 TTJ students are learning about big stage magic tricks. That's it for now.

Dear Stargate Parent, Here are a few extra details to help make the general music concerts run smoothly.

We will also do the Professor's Nightmare string trick and continue with juggling practice.

Dear Stargate Parent, Here's what we're doing. ATTENTION! ATTENTION!! Please put this date on your calendar. _________________________________________________________________________________ GENERAL MUSIC CONCERT February 24 at 6:30 PM Powers & Simmons 1st & 2nd grade perform at 7:00 PM Vaughan & Zellinger 3rd & 4th grade perform _________________________________________________________________________________ All students in grades 1-4 will be reviewing concert material. Auditions for accompanists were held last week. The M.C. was given a preliminary script. You will receive information about when to arrive, where to go and what to wear in the next letter.
-5th and 6th graders (Westdyke and Embry) will begin discussing harmonic and melodic minor scales this week.
-7-8 Guitar students are continuing to work on hammer ons and pull offs in the song Wish You Were Here. We are also working with barre chords and applying them to the song Stairway to Heavan.
-7-8 TTJ students will be reviewing music history we've discussed up to now and taking a final exam on Thursday.
-Kindergarteners are in the process of transferring their rhythm clapping to a standard classical approach using barlines, time signatures and number clapping. They learned A Tisket a Tasket and will also be reviewing Valentine's Day songs.

Please put this date on your calendar. _________________________________________________________________________________ GENERAL MUSIC CONCERT February 24 at 6:30 PM Powers & Simmons 1st & 2nd grade perform at 7:00 PM Vaughan & Zellinger 3rd & 4th grade perform _________________________________________________________________________________ All students in grades 1-4 will be reviewing concert material that was introduced in the first 6-week session in preparation for their upcoming concert on February 24. Auditions for accompanists will be held this week. Students who signed up to be accompanists should have already received music for the song they chose back in October.
-5th and 6th graders (Westdyke and Embry) took a quiz over 15 major key signatures. They are currently working on constructing relative natural minors.
-7-8 Guitar students are continuing to work on hammer ons and pull offs in the song Wish You Were Here. They also finished transcribing Scaborough Fair from standard notation to tablature and are working on using correct fingering in performing the song. We will discuss barre chords this week.
-7-8 TTJ students will be reading about Pope Gregory, Leonin and Perotin and listening to samples of music from the Middle Ages. They will also do a clapping activity with 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures.
-Kindergarteners are learning 2 Valentines day songs: Love Is the Magic Word and I Made a Valentine.

-7-8 TTJ students will be working on rope tricks, juggling and listening to music in the Middle Ages.
-Kindergarteners reviewed I Think You're Wonderful, played the Chucu game and a ball passing game to In the Hall of the Mountain King.

Dear Stargate Parents, Here's what we're doing.
-All students in grades 1-4 will be reviewing concert material that was introduced in the first 6-week session in preparation for their upcoming concert on February 24. -In addition to the bullet point above, 1st and 2nd graders will learn Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful. -In addition to the first bullet point, 3rd and 4th graders will learn the Stargate School Theme Song. Vaughan and Zellinger's class will also turn many of their songs into canons. -5th and 6th graders (Westdyke and Embry) will continue working on key signatures and the circle of 5ths. -7-8 Guitar students will continue with the performance midterm over materials we've discussed up to now and then begin working on standard notation -7-8 TTJ students are continuing their presentations on a TTJ topic. -Kindergarteners learned Hush Little Baby and I Think You're Wonderful. Dear Stargate Parents, Here's what we're doing. -Kindergarteners clapped (and sang) Loose Tooth, You Are My Sunshine and Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar. We also added 4 sixteenth notes to their rhythmic-clapping complexity. -1st and 2nd graders added whole notes (and rests) and half notes (and rests) to their rhythmic clapping complexity. They formed words on a treble clef staff using letters from the musical alphabet. They also took a post test over material we've discussed up to now. They reviewed all concert songs and practiced text reading parts and percussion instrument parts on Jack and the Beanstalk. Instrumental accompaniment opportunities for all concert songs will be made available for students who wish to have the added challenge. -3rd and 4th graders added quarter rests to their rhythmic clapping complexity. We discussed syncopation with single eighth (notes and rests) and dotted quarter notes in 3/4 and 4/4 time. They reviewed their concert songs. Instrumental accompaniment opportunities will be made available for studnets who wish to have the added challenge. They also formed words on a bass clef staf using letters from the musical alphabet in an activity entitled "How Well Do You Spell." -5th and 6th graders (Westdyke and Embry) are continuiing to learn terminology and penmanship necessary in the construction of major scales. We also discussed monophony, polyphony and homophony and sang Rose, Rose, Time of Your Life and Battle Hymn of the Republic. -7-8 Guitar students are working on a 12-bar blues progression in E and an open position pentatonic scale in E. -7-8 TTJ students are beginning to do their presentations on a TTJ topic. Dear Stargate Parents, Here's what we're doing. -Kindergarteners clapped rhythms with quarter notes quarter rests and 2 eighth notes. We discussed patterns in rhythm. They sang songs they've learned up to now and John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt (we discussed dynamics in this song). They also learned the games of Rattlesnake and Fox and Rabbit. -1st and 2nd graders did a musical version of Jack and the Beanstalk. They used percussion instruments and took turns reading parts of the story. -3rd and 4th graders reviewed the clapping of rhythms with all variations of quarter, dotted quarter and single eighth notes in 2/4 time. We added quarter rests to their rhythmic clapping complexity. We reviewed all concert songs and sang a round called Hey Ho Nobody Home. We also did some pitch exploration exercises. -5th and 6th graders (Westdyke and Embry) are learning terminology and penmanship necessary in the construction of major scales. -7-8 Guitar students learned the pentatonic scale, pitch bends and some strumming techniques. -7-8 TTJ students made several balloon creations including: dogs, swans, and swords.
