Valicia McPherson
Information Resource Coordinator
About me: I have been involved with Stargate since the school's inception when I coordinated all the hiring for the first three years. I left the school for five years, and returned with my youngest son in 2003. I spent two years volunteering in the Library and serving as the school's historian before accepting a full time position here. This will be my third year running the Library. Other than books, I am passionate about the collaborative potential of the Web.

Even though I am not expected back to school for another 10 days, I have been very busy planning for the upcoming weeks. No, no lesson plans, but the Second Annual Stargate Founders Conference and a few staff presentations.
The Founders Conference, "Educating the Whole Child and Developing a Gifted Community," will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the school. Facilitated wholly by Stargate faculty and staff, it will address how an education at Stargate is different, how other parents and educators face the unique challenges gifted students present, and what techniques and strategies work well with this population. Volunteers are needed to help put this event on. Visit the planning Website or contact me in the Library.
Jennifer Burchill and I are preparing to familiarize the Stargate faculty with a variety of resources and tools from the Internet prior to school beginning. From rubrics to blogs, the 21st Century student world is changing, and we hope to help our teachers change with it.
