Dear Parents, Sept. 4, 07
We hope you had a long and exciting weekend. Last week was lots of fun getting to know every one. The teachers are very excited about our new classes, and anticipate high expectations and achievement from our new students. We are beginning to pick up the pace in the classroom a bit now that everyone is feeling more comfortable with school.
This week we’ll be administrating assessments in reading and writing. These assessments will help us in placement for our needs-based grouping. What this means is that during literacy time students will be placed in a class that is geared to their level of readiness and achievement. This allows the teacher to more easily meet individual students needs through whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction. The teachers will go into more detail about this on Curriculum Night Monday Sept.17th. Classes will not switch before this.
This week we will start a Theme unit called “Me and My World.” This unit focuses on self, family, and community. The Friends are working on an, All About Me poster, and will share these with their classmates. We look forward to another exciting week in Kindergarten!
