Miss Sneeuwjagt's news for Monday, June 2, 2008

Graduation-

Graduation is on June 5th, at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. Invitations went out Monday in the Weekly folders. Everyone has an extra invitation to invite other family members. If your child has a sibling at Stargate they may ask their teacher to be excused for the first hour, so they can watch the ceremony. The students arrive at school as usual, (at 8:00a.m.) that morning and go to their homeroom. Students can wear anything dressy, please not flip flops or any shoes that would prove dangerous on the risers. Parents will start seating themselves in the gym. If you would like to help set up tables in the multi purpose room for our reception please meet there after 8:00 a.m. before you seat yourself in the gym. Graduation starts at 8:30 when the Kindergarteners file in. The ceremony lasts about an hour. After that we'll enjoy food and cake in the multi-purpose room. The Friends are welcome to play on the "Big" playground with your supervision during the reception. There will be a setting for a photo shoot at the reception. We also have someone who is going to take your child's photo when he/she crosses the bridge. Please remember to take your child's timeline and advice paper when you leave the celebration. Everyone is very excited about our BIG day. I'm sure you have tons of questions so please ask. This celebration is put on by the parents, so thank you, thank you, thank you for all you're doing!!!!!

Field Day

Field Day is Wednesday, June 4th. Kindergarten may do a quick graduation practice in the morning, depending on how confident we are feeling about the ceremony. After that, we will go outside and participate in Field Day. We are inviting the Morning Friends to stay all day and enjoy lunch with the class. We are asking that everyone bring a sack lunch and we will eat it picnic style outside. Please remember hats, sunscreen, and anything else to avoid sunburn that day. If you are interested in volunteering to help, please contact Miranda Lamonski our P.E. teacher or let your homeroom teacher know. Please remember that it is an early release day, 1:15 p.m. for kindergarten on our playground. Thanks!

Have a great summer! I will miss you and don't forget you can stop by our classroom next year to say Hi!

Wanted: Help for Graduation (at home or afterschool) :

I am looking for volunteers to blow up 50 balloons (with regular air) for a surprise at graduation. They need to be delivered back to the school by Tuesday, June 3rd at 5pm.

You can either join me Tuesday afterschool to blow them up and stuff them in the balloon drops in the gym, or you can blow them up at home and return the balloons to school on Tuesday. A small air compressor works wonderfully.

If you can help, please contact me and I'll arrange to get you the balloons.

Kindergarten News for Monday, May 19.

What We Are Doing:

Theme- For Theme this week we will release our butterflies. We also made shaving cream clouds. This also helped some students with sensitivity to touch. It is a fun activity! We will talk about bugs and our feelings about them. Students will also illustrate a bug book.

Math- We will have a math test on Tuesday. We will also explore place-value concepts for tens and ones, investigate place value digit patterns, and introduce greater than, less than & equal to symbols.

*****************************************************************************************************

Graduation- Graduation is on June 5th, at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. Invitations went out Monday in the Weekly folders.
*****************************************************************************************************

Timeline-

The Kindergarteners are doing a class project where they will create their own timelines, and write advice to next years incoming class. Both of these will be displayed at our graduation ceremony. We will need photos for this project. Please send your photos in an envelope with your child's name on it. They need one photo for every year, i.e., a baby picture, a 1 year photo, a 2 year, 3 year, 4 year, 5 year, and if they are 6, a 6 year old picture. They will also need a recent photo, ( a class picture would be good) for their advice. All together they will need 6 or 7 photos for this project. We realize it may take a bit before you can gather all pictures, so please just send them in when you have everything together. We will be working on this for most of the month of May. The Friends will share their timelines with the class. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you so much!!!!

******************************************************************************************************

Field Day

Field Day is June 4th. If you know your child will get lunch from school, please let us know by May 27th. the lunches will be sack lunches and we need to know who is getting lunch before it is ordered. Also, we need some parent volunteers for field day. Please contact Ms. Lamonski if you would like to volunteer.

*****************************************************************************************************

Waterbottle

It would be great if you could put a water bottle in your child's lunch. They are getting very thirsty outside and it would help if they have water in their lunches.

*****************************************************************************************************

Library

The final due date for all library books is Wednesday, May 28. If your child still has a book at home, please have them turn it in by this date. Thanks!

*****************************************************************************************************

Dress Code reminder-

Students may not come to school wearing spaghetti straps and short skirts. I know that there is a big difference between a 7th grader wearing spaghetti straps and a kindergartener, but this is district policy. If you have any questions, please check out pages 29-30 in the Community handbook.

Personal note:

I want to apologize for this blog being a day late and for my absence at school on Friday, May 9 and Monday, May 12. Ryan and I got news early Friday morning that Ryan's stepfather passed away. He was diagnosed with terminal caner on May 2. Everything happened pretty quickly, but we know that he didn't suffer for very long. The memorial was on Monday. Thank you for your kind thoughts and support.

What We Are Doing:

Math-

For Math we are working with addition facts. The students are learning different ways to find addition fact sums. We will have our chapter test next week.

Theme-

We will learn about the different types of clouds this week. We will make a book and make the different shapes of clouds with shaving cream. Don't be surprised if your child begins predicting the weather soon.

Timelines:

Graduation-

Graduation plans are going well. If you would like to donate a package or two of juice boxes for our graduates, please contact Ms. Gelakoska by email, or phone ex. 135.

What We Are Doing:

Theme- This week for theme we are discussing the three different stages of water: gas, liquid and solid. We played a game that taught us that when water is a gas, the molecules move very fast and they are spread apart. When the molecules are in a solid, they are close together and move very slowly. The students are also making a book that describes the three stages of matter.

We also have visitors in our Kindergarten classroom. We welcome our four Painted Lady Butterfly larva. We will observe the changes the larva goes through to become a beautiful butterfly. We are recording our observation in a classroom journal. We will let the butterflies go once they are adults.

Math- For Math this week we will measure our body parts with a tape measure. We will also explore two dimensional shapes and become familiar with base-10 blocks. Later in the week we will tell time on the quarter hour.

Book Orders- This is the last chance to order books through Scholastic book orders. You can order online or send an order to school with your child. The book orders are due on Friday, May 9.

Time Lines
