What We Have Been Doing

Theme- We finished our unit on My Body. The students took them home on Friday. Please ask them to point out the different organs we learned and check if they could identify the body part and function. This week we will start learning about Space and Native Americans. We will talk about the night sky and the planets that we can not see from earth, but that are up there. We will learn about the sun, Mercury and Venus by the end of the week.

Math- For Math last week we played snack subtraction. We also worked on the Monster Squeeze game again and we did an activity that focused on pennies=1 cent. We also had a chance to finish some projects that were not completely done. This week we will work on number stories which are the beginning concept of addition and subtraction word problems. We will also compare different objects to our height and measure how many kindergarteners our room is in length. These activities will help with the unit of measure concepts. On Friday we will do a Halloween Math activity.

Field Trip

The field trip to the pumpkin patch was a huge hit! The students met Molly the Mule, Roger the Lamb and several other animals. We also went for a hay ride and learned how to lasso from real cowboys! I enjoyed the farm because it was not crowded and we had many opportunities to learn about a farm. Thank you to Julie Sadler, Paul's mom and Kerry Harris, Robert's mom, for helping us on the field trip. They were the first to turn in the permission slips and indicate that they wanted to chaperone. We will have more field trips so other parents will have an opportunity to come with us.

Thanks again!

Gala

Please fill out the forms I sent home last week to indicate what you would like to contribute for the basket. We do not need any of the donations until November, but we would like to plan what our basket will look like and we need to know what we may get from our families. The basket is looking great so far, and thank you for of the generous donations. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Forrest or Mrs. Zonies. Their contact information should be on the gala handout.

Halloween

We are planning a fun Halloween party for October 31. All students are invited to come. We would like to have the half day students stay all day to enjoy the party. Parents, please send a sack lunch to school. We will eat in the classrooms before the party. The students will change into their costumes after lunch and before the party. They should not come to school wearing their costumes. Masks and face paint will not be allowed at school. We need to see all their beautiful face.

P.E.

Mr. C wanted to remind you that our students need to either wear or bring gym shoes. If the weather is cold, have your child bring tennis shoes in their backpack. They can change into the shoes before PE. We have PE everyday for about 5 more weeks.

Spirit Day/Founders Conference/World Series

On Friday, students are asked to wear our school colors of yellow and purple. Students may also wear their Stargate logo. We will have important people visiting the school and observing our wonderful students. We would love to show our Stargate Spirit on Friday.  The Founders Conference is on Saturday. I am excited to attend some of the classes about Gifted students. I hope to see you all there.

Students may wear Rockies gear on Wednesday and Thursday. If they do not have Rockies clothes you may wear black and purple to support the team.

Volunteers

Thank you to all who come in and help me in the classroom. Please make sure that I know in a week in advance when you are coming in. I need time to prepare. There may also be times where the week is hectic or we have special activites and we may not need a volunteer to come in. I will contact you ahead of time if we do not need you to come in. I truly appreciate your help with the class. It would be so hard to do all of the lessons without you!

Thanks for all your help!
