Miss Sneeuwjagt's Kindergarten News for October 16, 2007

What We Have Been Doing

For Theme last week we learned about the digestive system and skeletal system. The students added the stomach and intestines to their life size body posters. This week we will add bones and muscles to the posters. The posters will go home on Friday.
For Math last week we worked on identifying the numbers between 10 and 20. We also explored the concepts of more than and less than with a game. Some students may teach the game to you. This week we will revisit the concepts that were taught last week. We will also work with pennies and subtraction.

Gala Class Basket
Our class basket is called "Team Spirit." We are asking for donations from each family. Some ideas donating for the basket include Broncos, Rockies, Avalanche, Nuggets, 14ers, Rapids, or Rage logo wear or tickets. Stargate logo, tailgating equipment and sports blankets would be a great contribution as well. If you would like to make cash donation please email me and I will add your name to the list. We will buy items for you or save for a couple of tickets to a game. Please fill out the form that will be sent home in the Monday folders to let us know what you will contribute to the basket.

Pumpkin Patch
We are going to the pumpkin patch this week! If you have not signed a permission slip for your child to go on the field trip by tomorrow, they will not be able to go with us. All students should bring a sack lunch for the field trip on Friday. Half day students will be picked up at 1:30p.m. Please do not send money with your child because they will not have an opportunity to buy anything at the pumpkin patch.

Halloween
We will have a Halloween party on October 31 in the classroom. We would like the students who go home early to stay all day with us. We will have lunch in the classroom and the party will start from 12:30-1:15. Only the parents who are asked to volunteer will be able to come into the class during the party. If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Forrest.

Founders Conference
Stargate is hosting a conference for parents and educators of gifted children on October 27. On-line pre-registration and additional information can be found under the "Parents" tab of the Stargate School Website. Pre-registration cost is $30, which includes two key-note presentations; choice of three break-out sessions; a panel discussion; continental breakfast, espresso cart and a box lunch.  Price will be higher at the door. Some of the presenters at the conference include Stargate staff and parents. There will be a special panel of Stargate alumni talking about district high school experiences.  Keynote presentations will be given by Denise Mund, a state School of Choice educational consultant, speaking about the history of Charter schools; and Nancy Hall, who was co-author, creator, founder and an early educator and administrator of Stargate.  She will discuss why gifted children need full time academic options. I am attending the conference and I hope to see you there as well!

 Thanks!

It was wonderful meeting with everyone last week. Thank you!

Have a great week!
