What We Have Been Doing
For theme this week we talked about families. I read "When My Relatives Came" by Cynthia Rylant and "A Chair for My Mother" by Vera Williams to the class. We made Venn diagrams comparing families, we made ribbons for special family members and we made a word web with family words. My goal was to teach the students that families can be different and the same. I also wanted to introduce the students to graphic organizers. You will see some examples in the students work sent home today. This week for theme we will begin talking about our neighborhood and community. We will discuss the importance of a community and its citizens. By the end of the week we will begin constructing our own neighborhood.
For Math the students made float and sink charts. They also explored measuring by using different sizes of containers and pouring rice into the containers. We talked about how the smallest containe ...

What We Have Been Doing
For theme this week we discussed the five senses. The students made "My 5 Senses" books and took them home early in the week. We also began talking about our families, neighborhoods, and communities. They drew pictures of where they live and who they live with. The students also made watercolors of their families. You will see them at Curriculum Night. We also practiced what we should do if there is a fire drill. We talked about listening to the teacher, not panicking and where we would line up. The school will have a fire drill next week and I wanted to prepare the students ahead of time.
For Literacy, we finished alphabet pages. I know most of the students know their alphabet, but this exercise was reinforcing what they already know and assessing to find those who may not know their letters or sounds. Next week we will start our literacy groups with different teachers. I will talk to you mor ...

What We Have Been Doing
Last week we talked about feelings. I read "When Sophie Gets Angry... Really Really Angry" by Molly Bang to the class. The students had an opportunity to draw faces for each feeling and paint pictures about their feelings. They also started their "All About Me" posters. They will use last week's homework to finish them. The children will then do a small presentation to the class sharing their answers.
This week we will begin discussing our families and how important they are to us. We will also begin our first project. I will discuss the project with you at curriculum night. The students will already know what is expected of them by then.

All full-day students need to be signed out at the end of the day by a parent or guardian. According to the laws for an enrichment program siblings under twelve years old cannot sign out a Kindergartener. Dismissal will begin at 2:45pm, and at 1:15 pm on Wednesdays.
Kindergarten parents will need to park in the church parking lot located just west of Stargate School, then walk to the Kindergarten playground where you must sign your child out with their teacher. Parents who have siblings in 1st and 2nd grade, may have those children dismissed to the Kindergarten playground where you will also pick them up. If you wish for your 1st or 2nd grader to join us in the Kindergarten area, please send a note or an email to notify the kinder teachers and the 1/2 teachers. We want to make sure all of the students are safe and accounted for.
If you have children in 3rd-8th grades, you must pick them up in their designated areas. Please remember to use the school crosswalk wh ...

The first day of school will be at 8:00a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2007.
You can drop off your child in front of the outside door by the playground. If you would like to stay with your child, please leave the classroom by 8:05. This will help your child's transition into Kindergarten.
Half day students will be picked up at 11:00a.m. in the loop by the southside/front of the building. These students do not need to be signed out.
Full day students will need to be signed out at the playground or in the classroom if the weather does not cooperate. Dismissal will be at 2:45p.m. for Kindergarten. Please park in the church parking lot and not in the loop.
We are looking forward to seeing you on Monday! Have a good weekend!
