We are sending this week's blog in Monday folders. This will be the last hard copy of my blog this year. Please check my blog weekly for updates or sign up for my Newsletter. More info on how to sign up is in this week's Monday folders.

What We Have Been Doing: This week we will learn about our classroom. The students will learn about each center that is set up in the classroom. They will also learn about the rules for Kindergarten and Stargate. We will take a tour around the school. We are also learning about each other and how to be good friends. This is an important week in Kindergarten. The transition may be difficult for some students and easier for others; we will work with each child to make them as comfortable as we can with Kindergarten. Later in the week we will begin assessing students for Literacy groups.

Curriculum Night: Kindergarten Curriculum night will be Monday, September 8 from 6:30-8:30p.m. You will meet with your child's homeroom teacher and their literacy teacher and learn more about Kindergarten.

Monday folders: Monday folders will be sent home every Monday of the week. If we have Monday off, it will go home on Tuesday. Please take out the information in the folder and sign the signature page. If you have any comments or questions there is a space to write them in the folders. Have your child bring the folder back to school the next day.

Homework: We will have homework this week. Homework is not due until Friday. Please have your child use their time throughout the week to complete their assignment. This week we have a homework assignment for you too. Please check the homework folders (the purple folders)  for more instructions.

Newsletter Management:

You can get all my blogs by email as soon as I post them. Sign up under newsletter management in the Parent section of our website. The office has sent more information on how to sign up for my blog in today's Monday folder.

Share:

We will begin show and tell on Monday, September 8. We will follow the show and tell schedule throughout the year.
Students can share either an object or a story about something that happened to them away from school. The class will ask 3 questions about what they are sharing.  I will model this to the class before September 10. Share will be taught this week.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Snack:

We are off to a great start this first week of school. Thanks for all the good wishes and volunteering!
Lots of you have already volunteered to bring group snack for the mornings – Thanks! Here are answers to some questions we’ve been getting about snack… When it’s your turn, you can drop snacks off for the week, or bring something each morning. You can send it with your child or bring it to Mrs. Lambrecht’s door when you drop your child off. We have 21 kids in the morning (we provide the afternoon snack). We have a refrigerator, toaster oven and access to a microwave. We don’t mind doing minor preparation.

We do have peanut allergies in this room. So please try to stay away from anything that even says “processed in a facility with nuts”. If you would like to sign up for snack, please email Mrs. Lambrecht. A snack schedule will be online after Curriculum Night.

Water Bottles:

Many of the students do not like drinking the water from the tap. Please send a water bottle full of water for your child. They will keep their water bottles in their backpack throughout the day. They may get a drink of water from them during their free time.

Change of Clothes:

Accidents and spills happen occasionally and the kids feel much more comfortable if they have their own clothes to change into.   If you would, please provide us with a change of clothes for your Kindergartener.    As seasons change, you can swap them out for more seasonally appropriate clothes.   Please put them in a large Ziploc type bag with the child’s name on the outside

Used Media Sale:

The library is having a Used Media Sale (paperbacks, a quarter; hardbacks, etc, fifty cents). It will end on Wednesday, August 27. Please come by and buy some great second hand books.

 Founders Conference:

The Founders Conference is on Saturday, September 13.  In addition to the educational seminar during the day, there will be an all-school celebration dinner and square dance, with local caller Charlie Robertson. Registration information will be on-line next week.
