What We Are Doing:

Math- We are learning about time, money and number stories this week. Since we do not have math homework, please use some of the activities listed  at the end of my newsletter throughout this week and winter break.

 

Literacy- All of Mrs. Lambrecht’s literacy parents are invited to our Holiday Reader’s Theater. The plays will begin promptly at 8:10a.m. on Friday, December 19. We hope you can join us!

 

Theme- We are learning more about the Winter holidays this week. We will try latkes on Tuesday. We will learn about heat in our energy unit this week.

 

Winter Break- Winter break begins December 20- January 4. Have a wonderful break!

 

Conferences- If you would like to meet with your child’s homeroom and literacy teacher, we will have conferences January 14-16. This is not mandatory. More information will follow after Winter break.

What We Have Been Doing:

 

Math- This week we will explore measurement, work on number stories, learn how many combinations 3 people can line up and work on map skills.

Literacy- We are working on our Reader’s Theater plays this week. Please help your child memorize their lines. The students’ plays will be in their homework folders today.

Theme- We are reading Dr. Seuss stories to prepare us for our field trip on Friday. We are also learning about the fall/winter holidays. We are learning about light, heat and sound energy, as well.

 

Spirit Day- Tomorrow, students are encouraged to wear purple and yellow or their Stargate clothes. Students who are dressed up for spirit day may win a prize. We will attend a Spirit Rally Friday afternoon.

 

Field Trip Chaperones- Thank you Ms. Johnston-Brooks for volunteering to chaperone the Field trip on Friday. We can only have one volunteer for this field trip because the theater is sold out. If parents would still like to come with us, you will have to drive, buy your own ticket and most likely watch from the lobby.  : (

What We Are Doing:

 

Literacy: We will work in our reading and spelling groups this week. Starting next week, we will begin preparing for our Reader’s Theater winter plays. You are all invited to watch our play Friday, December 19 at 8:05 in room 141. We hope you can join us!

 

Math: This week we are working with dimes, pennies and nickels. We will also use tally marks, graph our pets and work on measurement.

 

Theme: This month we will work on energy (light, heat and sound) and we will learn about the different winter holidays different cultures celebrate. We are going to the library Monday afternoon.

 

Sock Hop: Please mark your calendars for Friday, December 5 from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM for the “2008 Holiday Party and Sock Hop.”  Join us for an evening of fun in the gym for our first ever Sock Hop!  We’ll have dance contests, hula hoop contests in the gym, and a cookie exchange. There...

What We Have Been Doing:

Math- Last week we concentrated on money. The students worked with counting nickels and pennies. This week we will work on graphing, and temperature.

Literacy- No literacy homework or spelling test this week. The students will work on writing what they are thankful for. Some may create a Thanksgiving poem.

Theme- This week we are wrapping up our Native American unit by learning about the first Thanksgiving. We will make some corn slapjacks on Tuesday so that we can try some Native American cuisine.

 

Winterfest- Kindergarteners are invited to show off their talents by auditioning for the Winterfest. Please help your child sign up by Mrs. O’Brien’s classroom. Students can perform a holiday song with an instrument or singing. If they want to perform as a group they can do this too. Auditions will be held on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2. The Winterfest will be on Dec. 11. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. O’ Brien.

What We Have Been Doing

 

Literacy- We assessed the students’ reading ability last week. The students are doing amazing! We won’t have homework or a spelling test next week, November 24-28, because of Thanksgiving vacation.

Math- We are focusing on money this week. The students will do activities with pennies, nickels and dimes. Please help your child by having them count change at home.

Theme- This week we will learn about the Comanche tribe and we will compare the different Native American tribes that we have learned about in our unit. Next week we will learn about the history of Thanksgiving.

 

Thanksgiving Vacation- There will be no school Nov. 26-28 in observance of Thanksgiving.

 

Yogurt lids- We are still collecting yogurt lids. If your family eats Yoplait yogurt, please send the pink lids in to our classroom.

 

Jersey Mikes- Visit Jersey Mikes on Tuesday, November 28, to help raise funds for Stargate. Mention Stargate when you check out and Stargate will get 20% of all proceeds.  The class with the most participation will win a free Cold Stone Ice Cream party!

What We Have Been Doing:

Literacy-This week one group will have only 5 spelling words. The rest of the groups will have 7 spelling words. The students are doing great and working hard. Starting December 1st, we will begin working on our Reader’s Theater.

 

Math- We will learn a game called “Monster Squeeze” this week. The game will help students learn number sense and the terms “higher than” and “lower than.” We will also explore time and money so more. The students will trace their hands to create a visual for counting by 5s.

 

Theme- This week the students will learn about the Northwestern Native American tribes. They will create totem poles to show what they learned. We will also focus again on the Pueblo Indians and make Kachina Dolls.

 

Veteran’s Day- No school tomorrow, November 11, in observance for Veteran’s Day.

What We Have Been Doing:

 

Literacy: We are all starting new stories this week for literacy. We are also testing the students to see how much they have learned so far this year. We will give you the results in the report cards later this month.

Math: We will work with graphs, money and the calculator this week. We are also comparing the length or our feet to the standard 12 inch foot measurement.

Theme: We learned about the Plains and Pueblo Indians last week. We will learn about the Apache and Southwestern Indians this week. The students are learning about Native American cultures through folk tales.

 

Halloween: Thank you to Mrs. Spruce, Mrs. Kemp, Ms. Brachtenbach, Mrs. Jain, Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Schloffman for giving us a fun Halloween party. The students enjoyed making trick or treat bags, working on Halloween puzzles and eating yummy treats. Thank you also to Mrs. Stone for helping us with the costume parade. What We Are Doing:

Literacy: We will have our spelling test on Friday after the costume parade. Please have your child study for their spelling test this week. All the students are now working in reading groups and on comprehension strategies.

Math: This week we work on a birthday graph, work with symmetry and estimation.

Theme: The students brought their bodies home on Friday. Please have them point out the various body parts that they learned about and the function of each part on their body. This will help reinforce the concepts that we learned in the unit. This week we are starting our Native American unit.

 

Book Orders: Book orders are due today. If you still want to order, please order online today or turn in your book order form by tomorrow, October 28.

 

CSSI: The CSSI team completed their visit to the school. They will report to our school tonight at 7p.m. All are welcome to attend to learn more about our school.

 Good morning parents,

 

What We Have Been Doing



Math- Last week we learned about our phone numbers and we saw symmetry in nature. This week we will make symmetrical jack o’ lanterns for Halloween and begin working on number stories.

 

Theme- This week we will finish our unit on the human body. We will talk about the circulatory system, respiratory system and the digestive system. By the end of the week the students will take their body projects home.

 

Literacy- We have 7 spelling words to learn instead of 5 this week. We will add a couple of spelling words throughout the month until the students have 10 spelling words to study. 

 

Field Trip- We are going to Mazzotti farms on Tuesday. Since the weather is not looking that great, please dress your child accordingly. This is an outside activity and students should come dressed for the day's weather. We will be walking on grass and fields which may be wet or muddy. We advise the children...

What we have been doing- 



Literacy- The students are working in reading and spelling groups. We will begin reading assessments soon to see how much they have progressed so far throughout the year.

Math- We worked on symmetry last week. This week we will discuss our phone numbers, learn more about symmetry, explore three dimensional shapes and begin focusing on money.

Theme- Last week we learned about the skeletal system. This week we will explore the muscular system and the respiratory system. We may begin learning about the digestion system.

CAGT- I will be attending the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented annual conference on Monday, October 13 and Tuesday, October 14. I am looking forward to meeting the big names in Colorado’s gifted and talented educators and researchers. I will attend several workshops that are focused on Stargate’s special population of students.
