Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, January 07 - 11

 

This week in Geometry the begin chapter 7 which introduces the properties of circles to the students. We will discover some of the relationships angles and line segments in and around circles.

 

This week in College Prep Algebra we will begin Unit 6: Graphing and Systems of Linear Equations. The main focus of this unit is advancing our study of systems of equations and the relationship to their graphs. Students will continue to develop their understanding by interpreting more complex graphing situations.

 

This week in Integrated Algebra, we will begin Chapter 6: Ratios and Proportions. We will calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids as well as the area and circumference of circles. Then we will enlarge or reduce these figures and study similarity, which introduces proportions. Our goal is to write proportions and solve problems using proportions.

 

The week in Pre Algebra II we begin chapter 6: Ratio and Proportion. Learning to set up and solve proportions may be the most useful mathematical tool one develops beyond learning the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The class will use proportions to solve problems involving percents, discount rates, maps, and scale models.
