Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, December 17 - 21
Geometry:
The students will be assessed of their knowledge and understanding of Polygons, primarily quadrilaterals. Concepts include interior and exterior angles of polygons, properties of kites, trapezoids, parallelograms, rhombuses, rectangles and squares. Additional concepts include consecutive angles and mid-segments of these two dimensional polygons.
College Prep Algebra
This week we will assess our understanding over Numerical, Geometric and Algebraic Ratios. The students finish the unit of study on Monday and Tuesday by using equations with ratios. Thursday is the test and Friday we will review the test and possibly play math games involving Order of Operations.
The primary learning objectives in this unit are to:
-
explore ratios from a numerical, geometric and algebraic perspective
-
Compare ratios of sides, perimeters and areas of plane figures
-
Explore percent as a ratio
-
Use equivalent ratios in relation to graphs of lines
-
Write and solve equations that involve ratios, including proportions.
Integrated Algebra
In this chapter we have been solving equations: different methods have been delivered as strategies; cover up, a balance scale where adding or subtracting the same amount from both sides is stresses and eventually the students solve equations by making the transition from manipulatives to symbols. Students are also encouraged to make the connection between algebraic and graphical solutions. This week we will test our understanding over these concepts in this chapter.
Pre Algebra II
The week in Pre Algebra II we conclude chapter 5: Ratios, Measurement and Equivalent Fractions. I will test the students this week over this unit of study. We have practiced methods for finding equivalent fractions including fraction bars, rulers and the Identity Property of Multiplication. Ratio tables have assisted in solving word problems involving unit costs, rates and proportions.
