My home page is under construction. For now all new information is under the Geometry tag.
Geometry
This week in Geometry we are in the middle of chapter two. This chapter is an introduction to geometry and is rich in vocabulary and definitions. We range from lines, points and planes to angles, polygons, triangles and quadrilaterals. We still use inductive reasoning to look for patterns as we seek definitions for the geometric figures. Additionally the students have been exercising their order of operation skills by participating in “Bowling”: a dice game.
College Prep Algebra
This week in College Prep Algebra the students will showcase their understanding of the concepts in Unit 1. The learning objectives from this unit were:
- Understand the rules for doing arithmetic with integers
- Combine algebraic terms using addition and subtraction
- Interpret graphs
- Organize date using a variety of methods including systematic lists and tables
- Investigate patterns and use them to predict outcomes
- Solve word problems using the “Guess and Check” strategy as preparation to write and solve equations.
The next unit will use geometry as an introduction to the problems solving technique of using sub-problems (i.e. breaking problems into smaller parts).
Integrated Algebra
This week in Integrated Algebra I will asses the students over chapter one. The learning objectives from this chapter include
- Develop good work habits
- Collect, organize, display, and interpret data
- Solve word problems using the guess and check strategy as preparation for writing and solving equations
In the next unit the student will work with integer operations, discover patterns in relation to data tables, rules, or equations, and graphs. The students will also learn about the shapes of different graphs.
Pre Algebra II
This week in Pre Algebra II we continue our study with integers and solving equations. Our focus is the learn more about integer operations and coordinate graphing. The students will improve their “Order of Operation” knowledge by participating in “Target Numbers”. The rules are all the seed numbers have to be used once and only once while using addition, subtraction multiplication, division and exponents to equal the target number. Example: use the seed numbers 2, 5, 6, 7 to yield 16. Solution: (5*6) – (2*7) = 16.
