Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, Sept 02 - 05
Hello to all families and students and may you enjoy a happy September. We are really in school and establishing routines. Please promote good routines with your student such as a quiet location for homework the same time each afternoon or evening.
Geometry:
This week in Geometry we will conclude chapter one where we studied number patterns and used inductive reasoning to determine the nth term. I will test the students on the material as well as begin chapter two in which the basic relationships of plane geometry are presented.
College Prep Algebra
This week in College Prep Algebra we continue our study unit 1: Difference of Squares.
I will administer a quiz this week to gauge the class progress.
To summarize the chapter’s contents and learning objectives include:
Understanding the rules of doing arithmetic with integers
Combining algebraic terms using addition and subtraction
Interpreting graphs
Organizing data using lists and tables
Investigating patterns to predict outcomes
Solving word problems
Integrated Algebra
This week in Integrated Algebra the concepts we are working on include organizing data using a box & whisker plot and a scatter plot. Students will understand plotting (x, y) ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. Additionally we review order of operations, computations with positive and negative integers, and central tendencies.
Algebra II
This week in Algebra II we study continue unit one in our text book which uses Matrix Models to explore topics in algebra, geometry, statistics, probability and discrete mathematics. Additionally I will introduce conic sections, in particular parabolas as well are review applications using linear equations and operations.
