Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, Aug 25 – 29
I send greetings to all families and students. My math classes begin with a review of many concepts. New material and challenges will arrive shortly. Presently we are deepening our understanding and confidence of prior concepts and refining the skills that will be used to advance our learning throughout the school year.
Geometry:
This week in Geometry we will further their understanding of inductive reasoning. They will find the next term in number patterns and combine inductive reasoning with visual-thinking skills. The class will understand further construction techniques using their compasses.
College Prep Algebra
This week in College Prep Algebra we study unit 1: Difference of Squares. Our learning objectives include:
Understanding the rules of doing arithmetic with integers
Combining algebraic terms using addition and subtraction
Interpreting graphs
Organizing data using lists and tables
Investigating patterns to predict outcomes
Solving word problems
Integrated Algebra
This week in Integrated Algebra we study Chapter 1: Data Interpretation. Our learning objectives are:
· organizing data,
· visualizing, displaying and interpreting data using scatter plots, line graphs, bar graphs, stem and leaf plots and box and whisker plots
· an introduction to solving word problems using Guess and Check tables to organize the solution.
Algebra II
This week in Algebra II we study Matrix Models, a powerful tool used throughout mathematics. The students will use matrices to explore topics in algebra, geometry, statistics, probability and discrete mathematics.
