Next Math Counts Competition: Feb 23, 2008
Geometry:
This week in Geometry we further our study of area. We focus on the area of whole circles, segments and circle sectors. The class studies solids and the surface area of solids. Next week we will complete the chapter and test our understanding. This weeks proof involves the area of a parallelogram.
College Prep Algebra
In College Prep Algebra this week we continue our study of linear slopes and rate of change. We seek to understand what the slope of a line represents and the relationship between a linear equation and the graph. Our objectives this week include linear equations in the y = mx + b form, graphing using slope and the y-intercept, and solving system of equations. The students will investigate these concepts.
Integrated Algebra
This week in Integrated Algebra we continue our chapter involving division of fractions, percents and formulas. Throughout the chapter the students will have the opportunity to divide fractions, find percentages (both increase and decrease), use formulas to solve problems and solve equations that have a fraction as the coefficient.
Pre Algebra II
Our class work this week involves operations with fractions and decimals. These computations involve multiplication of fractions with numbers less than one and mixed numbers. We also practice division with fractions and applications of fractions in the real world.
