Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, January 28 – Feb 01
No school for the students on Friday February First!
Next Math Counts Competition: Feb 09, 2008
Geometry:
This week in Geometry we begin with student presentations on their math history projects and finding the length of an arc of a circle. After a review, I will assess the students on their understanding of chapter 7: Circles. Topics include central angles, inscribed angles, tangents, chords, secants, radius, diameter, circumference, area, arcs, sectors and the associated vocabulary.
College Prep Algebra
This week in College Prep Algebra we conclude Unit 6: Graphing and Systems of Linear Equations. In this unit of study one primary learning objective was to solve two linear systems of equations. Additionally we have discovered how to multiply binomials and reviewed all significant concepts from units 1 – 5. I will assess the students on Tuesday.
On Thursday we begin unit 7 where we seek to strengthen our understanding of lines and equations with a focus on slope.
Integrated Algebra
This week in Integrated Algebra, we conclude Chapter 6: Ratios and Proportions. We have explored numeric, algebraic, and geometric ratios. To solve proportions, the students have used the Identity Property of Multiplication and cross multiplication. On Thursday I will assess the students with material from this chapter and prior concepts.
Pre Algebra II
The week in Pre Algebra II we conclude chapter 6: Ratio and Proportion. The learning objectives in this chapter include:
Set up and solve proportions for problems and situations
Change fractions to decimals using division
Estimate percents
Find least common multiples for pairs of integers
Calculate probabilities of complementary events.
There will be a chapter test on Thursday January 30.
