Middle School Mathematics, Stafford, Feb 25 - 29

Geometry:
This week in Geometry we are studying the Pythagorean Theorem as well as a number of related conjectures. We will practice simplifying square roots and study the special properties of 30-60 right triangles, 45- 45 right triangles.

College Prep Algebra

Geometry:
This week in Geometry we further our study of area. We focus on the area of whole circles, segments and circle sectors. The class studies solids and the surface area of solids. Next week we will complete the chapter and test our understanding. This weeks proof involves the area of a parallelogram.

Next Math Counts Competition: Feb 09, 2008

Geometry:
This week in Geometry we focus and discover formulas and conjectures related to the concept of area. We use these formulas and conjectures to solve word problems and applications problems. Our goals this week are to discover formulas for finding areas of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, kites, regular polygons, and circles.

No school for the students on Friday February First!
Next Math Counts Competition: Feb 09, 2008

Geometry:
This week in Geometry we begin with student presentations on their math history projects and finding the length of an arc of a circle. After a review, I will assess the students on their understanding of chapter 7: Circles. Topics include central angles, inscribed angles, tangents, chords, secants, radius, diameter, circumference ... I look forward to seeing you and meeting with you during conferences this week.
Here is what is happening during classes.

Geometry:
This week in Geometry we are near the middle of chapter 7: properties of circles to the students. Our learning objectives are to discover the relationship between the circumference of a circle and the length of its diameter. This relationship defines the number pi. Additionally we will prove that the diagonals of a is ... Read More »
