This week we will be looking at daily life in Egypt.  We will be creating interactive dramatizations in groups to be presented on Thursday.  Remember to keep working on your projects as well!

Due dates: Chapter 9 quiz Friday.  Outline for Egypt paper Friday.  Southern Africa Quiz Friday, November 14.  First draft of Egypt paper Friday, November 14.

Monday: No homework

Tuesday: Work on dramatizations.  We will present them on Thursday, so your group has developed a homework schedule.  Check with the leaders as needed.

Wednesday: More dramatizations.  They need to be complete for class on Thursday, including any costumes you are creating.

Thursday: Study for Chapter 9 quiz.

Hello everyone,

This week we will be taking a trip down the Nile River to look at monuments.  We will also be continuing our work on our Egypt projects.  This week, the basic plan for your building is due on Friday.  You will need to know what you will be using for materials and the size of your artifact so we can start working on the scale.

We will also be having our Northern Africa quiz, so don't forget to study for that!

Monday: No homework

Tuesday: Reading notes, sections completed in class.  May vary by class.

Wednesday: Finish reading notes in workbook, study for Africa quiz tomorrow.

Thursday: Egypt project.

This week we will begin a research project on Egypt.  Students will be responsible for building a scale model of an Egyptian artifact, which will be due on November 24 (right before Thanksgiving break).  Please look at my documents to see the assignment sheet, rubrics and due dates for the project.  We will also be starting our geography study with an African map.  Students will need to memorize the countries of Africa for a quiz in early November.

Homework:

Monday: Fill in Africa map, due Wednesday.  Begin researching for Africa project, keeping notes for bibliography.

Tuesday: Continue to label Africa map.

Wednesday: Finish reading chapter 7 and working on review sheet as needed.

Thursday: Study for quiz Friday on Chapter 7.

Hello everyone,

It's good to be back at Stargate!  I hope everyone had an amazing time at Cheley, I know I did!  I will never forget the rainstorm and Walter the Farting Dog.  Thanks to all of you for making my first experience there an awesome one!  This blog is going up a day late because I wasn't here on Monday, so hopefully everyone is able to catch up.

We will be having our test on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  Wednesday we will do the multiple choice questions for all 6 chapters (40 questions, one point each) and then Thursday will be the remaining 60 points in vocabulary and short answer questions.  Remember, the study guide and extra credit crossword are due when you come into class on Wednesday.  Good luck everyone!

Starting next week, we will be studying Egypt.  We will be picking an artifact to study in depth, either through a building project or through writing a research paper.  Please start to think about materials if you will be building, and there will be assignment...

Is everyone ready for another short week?  We will have normal classes Monday and Tuesday and then we head off to Cheley!  As you check powerschool this week, please note that I am accepting late work from this unit until the day of the test, at which point everything that is not in will revert to a zero.  Your child will recieve partial credit for that late work, but it is better than no points at all!

Test information: Chapters 1-6 will be tested on Wednesday, October 15 and Thursday October 16.  Wednesday will be the multiple choice questions and the vocab and short answer will be Thursday.  Study hard!

Homework:

Monday: Finish reading chapter six and doing the preview and reading notes for the chapter.  You do not need to do the processing page yet.

Tuesday: You now have your study guide for the test.  Remember, you will need to show me that you studied in some way.  The easiest way to do this is to write the information from the study guide somewhere so you can hand it in.  The...

Hello everyone,

Please remember that this week is conferences!  Your children should have a sign up form and I look forward to meeting you all.  Also, they will be getting a sealed envelope today in their sixth period class which contains the information on how to vote for the new school board.  Please ask them for this!

Since this week and next are short weeks, we will not be having a chapter 5 or chapter 6 quiz.  They will have to know that information for the unit test.  This test will be on Wednesday, October 15, and they will get study guides before we go to Cheley.  I know that they will not work on them while we are gone, but that way they will have them in advance.  They will also have two days in class when we get back to review the study guide some more. Please either email me or have them talk to me if they have any questions about what will be on the test (Chapters 1-6)

Homework

Monday: Worksheet chapter 5.

Tuesday: Any workbook pages that didn't get finished for chapter 5 need to be done by Monday when we come back to school.

Hello!

Please remember that this week is a short week.  We will have no school on Friday for a Teacher Work Day.  Please also plan on coming to Curriculum Night on Monday!

This week we will be looking at the shift from a hunter/gatherer society to an agricultural society.  Students will be completing a group project where they will create a comic book showing this change in lifestyle.  These will be due on Thursday.  We will also spend Wednesday looking at the US Constitution.  Every year, the goverment declares September 17th to be Constitution Day.  Due to legislation passed  by Senator Byrd in 2005, any school that receives funding from the government must dedicate that day to a study of the Constitution.  We will be moving forward in time to spend the day examining the American system of government, and then we will return to the Ancient world on Thursday.

I will also  be announcing the date of a meeting soon to discuss a Washington DC trip that I am planning for the students.  Please...

Hello,

This week we are going to be looking more closely at early hominids.  Students will be working on a group map project.  They will have to create a map showing where each of the five groups of hominids lived and answer several questions.  Please see below for specifics.
