A little about Ms. Posateri...
I hold an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also hold a Masters Degree in Education from DePaul University. I have several years of teaching experience as well as experience in the ecommerce field. Last year was my first year at Stargate and I taught Ancient World History and the World Affairs Challenge Team. My previous teaching experience was at the high school level teaching American History, Mexican American History, Geography, World History, Psychology, and Leadership. I am trained as a Facing History and Ourselves Teacher and a Peace Jam Leader. During graduate school I studied and worked in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. These international experiences have shaped me as a teacher and inspire me to be a life long learner.
Travel is something I really love and encourage students to see the world! I've been to Poland, Germany, England, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, ElSalvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Canada, and Czechoslovakia! This past summer I went to Mesa Verde and Moab and loved the cliff dwelling ruins at Mesa Verde.
Every student at Stargate will be challenged in my class to think about the world around them. I hope to provide students with skills necessary to compete in our global economy. All students will be required to learn basic technology and will leave my class confident and inspired!
Some of my other interests....
What do you like to do on your spare time? Swimming, snowboarding, camping, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. I also love to garden and read.
What are you reading right now? This summer I read the book, "Not On Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide In Darfur and Beyond" by Don Cheadle and John Prendergast. It really informed me about what is happening in Darfur and provides a very hopeful perspective on how change can happen in the midst of genocide. Don Cheadle and John Pendergast are coming to Denver to speak in October and I'd love to bring some Stargate students to the talk.
Why do you like teaching? I really love working with young people. There is nothing more satisfying then watching students develop a sense of who they are and how they see the world. We live in a very complex world so understanding history is very important. Young people are at the point in their life where they are deciding what they want to take and give to the world and it is important that they begin to think deeply about global issues in order to come up with good answers to those questions. Who would want to do anything else!
