Tuesday 9/4 - Today was the due date for the Geo Challenge Homework. My homework policy is the assignment is marked 10% off every day it is late. Students can expect the Geo Challenge to be graded and returned by Thursday or Friday of this week.
In class we listened to Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech. We used it to analyze the "American Dream" and to learn about primary vs. secondary documents.
Wednesday 9/5 -
Workshop - Students will research the pros and cons of celebrating Columbus Day and have a debate in class on the topic. The goal is to learn debating skills while exploring a controversial topic.
World Affairs Challenge (WAC) - Students will begin preparing for this year's challenge. The theme of this year's event is "Global Healthcare". See the University of Denver website under "World Affairs Challenge" to learn more.
Thursday 9/6 - Today students will take a quiz on the Centuries Chart. They will also be working on Chapter 1 Reading Notes. If we do not finish the reading notes in class this will be homework.
Friday 9/7 - Today students will work in groups on an activity analyzing primary and secondary documents. They will be learning how to look for bias and how to use these documents as evidence in answering a historical question. This activity goes along with Chapter 2 of the Textbook.
General Note To Parents: Please make sure you have Adobe Reader downloaded on your computer so your son/daughter can read PDF files. My homework and other documents are posted in PDF rather than word so that they can never be edited. Thanks!
Also, just a reminder that your son/daughter is responsible for their textbook if it is lost or damaged ($60.00 Fee). This book is checked out for the year.
Finally, if your son/daughter is in WAC I will be sending home a letter detailing the dates and requirements for participating in this event. Expect this letter in the next two weeks. Until then you can go to the University of Denver Website to get more information.
Thanks and have a great week. Ms. Posateri
