Mrs. Westdyke’s Class
LANGUAGE ARTS: We enjoyed a fun first week together. Students are well underway with their reading of Literature Circle books. This week, we will learn about the jobs necessary for the circles to function effectively. Each student will have a daily job related to the reading. Please remember to have your book in class every day. Due to the field trip on Tuesday and a teacher work day on Friday, we will only meet three times this week. As a result, we will not do vocabulary or spelling this week. Please do look for a homework assignment coming home on Wednesday.
MATH: We had a great first week, and I am looking forward to this class. As discussed during Curriculum Night, this is an active class. Student participation is critical for maximum learning to take place. This week we will continue to work in Chapter 1 of the textbook. Last week, we learned about Durer’s Magic Square and worked on some magic square problems in small groups. We will do more with problem solving and critical thinking skills this week. We will do problem solving in teams on Wednesday. Note that due to the field trip on Tuesday and a teacher work day on Friday, we will only meet three times this week.
THEME: Great job getting in your field trip forms for Roxborough! This fun geological exploration takes place on Tuesday. We will be out of the building most of the day. Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and bring a sack lunch and water. We have a field trip to Roxborough State Park planned for September 16th. Chaperones for this trip include Mrs. Carlson, Mr. Boyd, and Ms. Skazin. Note that due to the field trip on Tuesday and a teacher work day on Friday, we will only meet three times this week. However, I still have a lot planned! We will delve into some physical manifestations of what is going on inside the Earth, particularly focusing on volcanoes and earthquakes.
