LANGUAGE ARTS: We will continue with our literature circle novels, The Time Bike and The Last Treasure. Last Friday, students began working with partners to create a compare/contrast diagram of the main characters in the two novels. This helps integrate students and provide them the opportunity to share what they have learned about their main characters. Students will complete spelling packet #23. Please note that a vocabulary test over all five packets will be on Friday, February 8th. Students will receive a study packet on Thursday.
MATH: We are working in Module 5 in the book. Students will have homework on Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week. We are also learning about the Stock Market, and will place our first buy orders this Wednesday.
THEME: We are having a great time learning about the circulatory system, and will continue that focus this week. Note that there is no school for students on Friday. In February, we will begin to work on quilt pieces to represent important things we have learned this year. I need parent volunteers to assist with the purchase of fabric and materials. You will be reimbursed with a grant I received from the Parent Staff Council. I also need parent volunteers to help with sewing. You do not need to be an
expert! Just helping students learn how to pin their pieces and use a sewing machine will help so much. Please contact me directly if you are available between 1 and 3 pm during the month of February.
