LANGUAGE ARTS: This week, students will work on Vocabulary Packet #4: mal (bad or wrong). This will be due on Friday. The students are making great progress as they learn about working cooperatively in Literature Circles. We will continue with our literature circle novels, The Time Bike and The Last Treasure Map.
MATH: We are working in Module 5 in the book. Students will have homework on Tuesday and Thursday nights this week. Please look for several pieces of graded work coming home in this week's Monday folder.
THEME: We will begin a new unit of study: the circulatory system. Our work this week will focus on learning about the human heart. On Friday, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will be with us in the classroom to present The Healthy Heart. The students will watch a dissection and be able to ask questions of the expert. In February, we will begin to work on quilt pieces to represent important things we have learned this year. I need parent volunteers to assist with the purchase of fabric and materials. You will be reimbursed with a grant I received from the Parent Staff Council. I also need parent volunteers to help with sewing. You do not need to be an expert! Just helping students learn how to pin their pieces and use a sewing machine will help so much. Please contact me directly if you are available between 1 and 3 pm during the month of February.
