Our class is collecting donations for three baskets:
1. Think Pink: This basket aims to raise awareness for breast cancer research. Items already donated include cute pink kitchen utensils and athletic socks with the pink bow. We are looking for a variety of pink items. Prices range from as little as one or two dollars for things like a pack of pink gum or a pink keychain, to about $10 for a baseball cap, to about $25 for sweatshirts and t-shirts. Target, Walmart, New Balance and other stores carry items with the pink bow, but anything pink will be gladly accepted.
2. Sweet Treat: This basket centers around goodies and will also include gift cards for books and/or videos. Again, the price range works for any budget. A nice size chocolate bar is about $3. Gift cards can be purchased in any amount.s< ...

We are having a terrific time in Theme. The students brought in their materials as requested and have been diligently crafting their inventions. We took a few of them outside yesterday and tested them on the playground. The inventions are due on Friday. This includes the project, write-up, and presentation. Some students finished early, so we started sharing a few of them.

Congratulations to Alex S. During Theme today, we held our speeches and elections for the Stargate Student Council representative position. The competition was fierce and our class would have been proud to have any of the candidates represent us. We talked about the courage all of the students displayed. Alex will do a terrific job!

Throughout the week, we will be working on hanger-based inventions in Theme. We also will continue to learn background about the Revolutionary War and this time of evolution in America. In Literacy, we are reading The Secret School at a rapid pace and using it as a vehicle for learning about jobs in literature circles. We will begin our spelling and vocabulary programs this week. In Math, we will begin using the book on Monday. Students will need a good calculator (HP 30XA recommended; about $15 at
