Take a look at what is going on in our classroom

On the week of the 10th, we stayed in Theme and worked on our Cultural Fair Projects.  Since we only had that week to get ready, we had to get busy.  We also had a lot of time with Mrs. Root since we stayed in Theme.  Most of the class had either P.E. or General Music.  Mostly, we worked on our projects and had fun with Mrs. Root.

Last week, we had the Cultural Fair on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  On Wednesday we had a regular school day. Finishing off the week, we had a Cultural Summit, where we met with the other five fifth/sixth classes in the multipurpose room for a discussion with others who had similar topics. We compared the cultures and found differences and similarites between them; it was a great learning expirence.  Our favorite parts were getting to see and talk about our topics with members from the other classes and cultures and make connections.

Woah!!!! Last week, our class went to the Keystone Science School. Our fearless chaperones, Mr. Koch, Mr. Southard and Ms. Spriggs went with us. Three days up there seemed like very little time to learn about geology, but it turns out that it was plenty of time. The Rocky Mountain Melodrama was a favorite memory of our class. Groups acted out the History of the Rocky Mountains. IT WAS HILLARIOUS!!!!! Along with this activity, we played games such as the Wa Master and Rockety Rock. Everybody had a great time and (for the fifth graders) is looking forward to doing it again next year.

This week's update is brought to you by Trevor S.

Last week in Mrs. Root's theme class we did a lot of things.  On Monday, we worked on our animal/plant/tree circlebooks.  We worked on them again on Tuesday and some people started them.  On Wednesday, we worked on our circlebooks for half the class, most people finishing theirs.  Then we put up a chart on the board that showed the average tempature, rainfall, and snowfall for the states in the northeast area that the indians that we are studing lived.  On Thursday, we disscussed the chart and concluded that the weather is a lot colder there and they got a lot of rain and snow.  On Friday, we first talked about the indians' culture and we began hi-lighting a northeast indian packet talking about what the indians were like.  Those were all the things we did last week.

Last week we had a lot of fun studying about the Native Americans in the North East regin. We also did our circle books on a animal, a plant and a tree from the North East region. We talked about Keystone and our corn maze feild trip. That's what we did last weak.   By: Jordyn T.

Andrew and Katey's Journalist of the week for week 9-22.

Last week we started learning about our ancient culture, the Iroquois Indians. These Indians are still in the northeast region today. We also watched an earthquake video about an earthquake that happened in Los Angeles in1987.The earthquake in L.A was very tremendous and powerful!  We finished learning about the rock cycle and we looked at fossils and minerals from the kits from the School of Mines.

This week has been very exciting because on a flaring Tuesday, we went to Roxbrough State Park. We took a hike, we saw many rock landforms, plants, and animals like deer, squirrels, and an assortment of birds.

In Theme, we've been working on geology and learning about rocks. We've seen many forms of rock, like sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic.

Our read-aloud book is Half-Magic , where 4 children find a magic charm that grants them half a wish, and the charm takes them on many magical and exciting adventures.

To wrap this exuberant week up, we had a thrilling week of going to Roxbrough, and reading the adventures of Half-Magic.

On Monday, 9-17-08, we took a look at the rocks from the Colorado School of Mines.  A special thanks to Ms. Ball for getting these rocks.  Tuesday we went to Roxborough and hiked.  We also saw some wildlife.  We were VERY quiet and saw 3 deers!  Mrs. Root also go a new camera for us to take pictures in class of experiments, feild trips, and other things.  We took many pictures on our field trip.  Wednesday everybody worked in the upstairs computer lab and did 2 different web searches about earthquakes.  Thursday we watched the movie "Earthquake! Disaster in L.A." about the 1989 earthquake.

Thanks Jennifer M. and Ben V.!!

Hello again!  This report of the events of Mrs. Root's class is brought to you by Rohit S. and Adriana G.

The week of September 1 was an exciting 3rd week of school.  Starting with a day off for Labor Day, on Monday.  Resuming  school on Tuesday, we watched two movies about volcanoes, mountains & earthquakes, learning much about them.  Continuing the week, we read an excellent magazine called Junior Scholastic, gaining knowledge about current events such as Global Warming, Election '08, trouble with bullies, and life in India.  Finishing off our week, we began switching for Language Arts and Math.  Then, as an end of the week treat, we had a fabulous demonstration with delicious plates and magma aka graham crackers and frosting.  As you can see Mrs. Root's class is the best class,...

Hello, I hope everyone had a great weekend.  This year we are going to have guest reporters giving us their comments on what is going on in our room.  This week we will be hearing from Deric P.

We started the school year. We started E.R.B. testing. We did a thing called scavenger hunt to learn more about each other. The class filled bean bags with bean bag beans. The class also made class rules - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Have fun, Let Mrs. Root teach, Do your best.

and Stella F.

During the second week of school, we finished the E.R.B. testing from last week. Then we started learning about geology; we watched an Earth movie and took notes, and we did an Earth experiment with an egg (we cracked the eggshell which is the crust, peeled the shell off the egg, cut the egg in half, and saw the "mantle" and "core"). Our homework was the "artifact bag"(we bring in 10-15 items that we share with the class about ourselves). We also had student council elections. Three students ran for class representative:Madi Smith, Maddie Dillon, and Angela Fei.  After three wonderful speeches, and a close vote, Madi Smith was class representative, and Maddie Dillon was the alternate. There was also an art contest by IFAW (a group that helps animals). These are the things that we did in the second week of school.
