By Shalaine Root on 9/24/2008

This newsflash is brought to you by Angela F.

This week has been very exciting because on a flaring Tuesday, we went to Roxbrough State Park. We took a hike, we saw many rock landforms, plants, and animals like deer, squirrels, and an assortment of birds.

In Theme, we've been working on geology and learning about rocks. We've seen many forms of rock, like sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic.

Our read-aloud book is Half-Magic , where 4 children find a magic charm that grants them half a wish, and the charm takes them on many magical and exciting adventures.

To wrap this exuberant week up, we had a thrilli ... Read More »

On Monday, 9-17-08, we took a look at the rocks from the Colorado School of Mines.  A special thanks to Ms. Ball for getting these rocks.  Tuesday we went to Roxborough and hiked.  We also saw some wildlife.  We were VERY quiet and saw 3 deers!  Mrs. Root also go a new camera for us to take pictures in class of experiments, feild trips, and other things.  We took many pictures on our field trip.  Wednesday everybody worked in the upstairs computer lab and did 2 different web searches about earthquakes.  Thursday we watched the movie "Earthquake! Disaster in L.A." about the 1989 earthquake.

Thanks Jennifer M. and Ben V.!!

Hello again!  This report of the events of Mrs. Root's class is brought to you by Rohit S. and Adriana G.

Hello, I hope everyone had a great weekend.  This year we are going to have guest reporters giving us their comments on what is going on in our room.  This week we will be hearing from Deric P.

We started the school year. We started E.R.B. testing. We did a thing called scavenger hunt to learn more about each other. The class filled bean bags with bean bag beans. The class also made class rules - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Have fun, Let Mrs. Root teach, Do your best.

Hi all!! We had a great day today.  We spent some time getting to know our classroom and where things are located within the room.  Tomorrow we will begin the ERB testing as well as getting to know each other with some activities.  We will do many "getting to know you" type of activities to build a strong community within our room.  Parents - hopefully you have seen your homework (parent - child questions, new internet permission form, the book lending agreement, and the notecard) and your kiddo has let you know the due date (Friday).  I know it's a little early for book orders however there we some great books in this month's orders so I decided to start with them today.  Orders are due on Sept. 3.  You can turn in orders anytime between now and then.  If you are going to write a check, please make them out to Scholastic Book Clubs not to myself or the school.  We have our dates for Keyst ...
