Take a look what is going on in class

Theme this Week
By Rebecca Ball on 5/5/2008
This week we’ll continue to work with the Louisiana Purchase and the adventures of Louis and Clark. This morning we were welcomed into our classroom with the lovely view of our growing garden! We’ll discuss the parts of a flower and conduct a flower dissection this week. We’ll also have an important visitor at the end of the week who will work with our nature journaling activities.

Theme this Week
By Rebecca Ball on 4/28/2008

I believe that my theme class should be the poster children for our "project based curriculum". I have been nothing short of AMAZED by their final projects for the Brain and Nervous System! I'm also incredibly excited about our new curriculum! This week in science, we'll plant a "mystery garden". The students will use the power of scientific observation to hypothesize the type of seeds they are planting. We'll also begin to write in our nature journals about the incredible environment around us! As we write in our nature journals and create our gardens, we'll be learning about the amazing adventure of Lewis and Clark and we will work with their journals and illustrations about the incredible environment that they experienced!

Field Trips!
By Rebecca Ball on 4/24/2008

A HUGE thank you to Mr. Holm and Mrs. Nordquist for going to the Quilt and Pioneer Museums with us today! This field trip was a great success and we couldn't have been it without them! Speaking of chaperones for filed trips...Friday, May 2nd is our field trip for Math in the Mall. If you're able to volunteer to spend the day with us, it would be greatly appreciated! You simply sign the bottom part of the permission slip, which will be going out this Friday!

Welcome to another busy week in theme! The social studies test is over and we're all set to briefly study the Bill of Rights and then dedicate the rest of the school year to Westward Expansion. The final assessment for the Brain and Nervous System is due this Friday and I certainly look forward to the experiments and final results! With the conclusion of the body, we'll move on to plant life and will plant seeds this Friday. Don't forget about Thursday's field trip to Golden!

This Week in Theme
By Rebecca Ball on 4/15/2008

Hello and welcome to a BUSY theme week! We're wrapping up the establishment of our Nation's Government and will have a quiz on the material on Tuesday, April 22nd. All students have a study guide and should begin reviewing the information. In addition, we'll dedicate class time to their partner projects which is a multi-genre project on the Brain and Nervous System. This project should require minimal work at home, but be sure to check in with your student on the project!

Ball April 7th Monday Letter
By Rebecca Ball on 4/9/2008

This week we'll focus on the nervous system and the three branches of goverment. We'll be finishing these topics soon and will have assessments coming up.

Welcome back!
By Rebecca Ball on 3/31/2008

We’ll introduce the nervous system starting with the brain. This is an exciting part of the human body to study and we’ll include hands on activities! We’ll also continue to look at the building of our nation. It's interesting to consider how much, yet how little our country has politically changed since its foundation.

This Friday, the 5th graders will meet with a representative from the Museum of Nature and Science in order to discuss "The New Me". During this time, sixth graders will learn about first aid and safety.

A HUGE THANK YOU!
By Rebecca Ball on 3/21/2008

I was truly AMAZED by all the parents who went out of their way to donate books to our class! A big thank you to the following families: The Walter Family, The Shih Family, The Nordquist Family, The Sur Family, The Phillips Family, and The Lundgren Family. Most of the books have already been happily taken by students! Thank you for helping to build a classroom library and for showing our students how important literature is!

Book Fair
By Rebecca Ball on 3/18/2008

This week our class will head to the book fair on Thursday! Starting today, students may buy books during lunch or they may want to wait until the entire class visits the book fair together. You may want to send your student to school with some money for a special book.

CSAP Again
By Rebecca Ball on 3/17/2008

Hello and welcome to the second week of CSAP testing. All students will take two tests on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The assessments will be on reading, writing, and math. It is especially important that the students are well rested and fueled with a healthy diet during the CSAP. In theme this week we'll continue to look at the formation of our government and will introduce the Nervous system with a starting point  at the brain.
