I wanted to thank all the parents who were able to attend curriculum night. You all had excellent questions about Keystone Science School and while I'm still working on some of your questions, here is what I have discovered so far:
1) The parent volunteers have a variety of duties. During the day, you will work with a Keystone Science

THEME: We continue to work with inventions and will create some invisible ink and hanger inventions this week. We’re also working with matter and have conducted whole class and independent experiments. This week, we will finally begin to work with The Revolutionary War in some detail. I’ve sent students home with library permission slips if you are comfortable with having your child read mature literature please sign this and send it back in. If not, please disregard the slip altogether.

Between September 24th and October 8th we'll be conducting attendance counts. It is incredibly important that all students be present at school during this time. Please let your students know how important their attendance is for both personal and school-wide successes. There will be additional information on this time period in the Star Newsletter.
Theme:
You may have noticed a pile of "gloop" in your home. This is representative of an in-between matter state. The students continue to work with matter and have conducted a number of experiments in relation to the topic. We'll also work more with inventions and you should see some invisible ink and coat hanger inventions coming home soon.

This may sound odd for your adventurous and outgoing children, but I think we're all ready to begin what will become our regular routine. Yes, assessments have come to an end and literacy and math classes will be established this week. I heard many excited comments about the upcoming establishment of a regular routine and I applaud both their excitement for the future and their hard-work and open-hearts over the last couple of weeks. This week kicks off with a pizza lunch party for new students on Monday. Tuesday calls for Entertainment Books to be returned. Last week, we worked with map skills in Theme. We will continue to work with map skills and look at inventions and The Revolutionary War this week. Another exciting adventure to begin considering is our trip to Keystone Science School. We'll be there from November 5th-7th. There is a cost to this field trip and I will provide you with the specif ...

I apologize for the blog update delay! After all the wonderful things I had to say about the "magical world of computers" I was tossed back into the real world with two completed blogs which never posted and have mysteriously disappeared. Every student in the class worked diligently on the ERBs this past week. I'm very proud of their dedication and concentration during these tests. While the ERB does make for a long first week, the end results will be well worth all the hard work! We will use the ERB and Stargate assessments in order to ensure that your child is placed in the classroom which will generate the most successes! This is the first year that Stargate is using the ERB. These tests are most often used by independent schools and I assure you that they are well-organized and well-thought-out assessments. If you have any questions or thoughts on the last week of ERB testing, please feel free to contact me as I have taken t ...
