What's happening this week?

By Marcella Embry on 11/10/2008

Project, project, and more project! Research needs to be completed, bibliography card finished, and project completed by the end of class Thursday. We will not be in the building on Friday, and presentations start first thing the next Monday, so make good use of your day off from school. Friday we will be traveling to Denver Museum of Nature and Science for Polar Palooza. Students will need a lunch. Thank you to all the many who volunteered to chaperone this trip. If you are not selected for this trip, you will have first priority on our next field trip in December.

This week we will continue studying the tundra and tiaga biome and will begin discussing how the Inuit and Aleutian people’s lives and culture has been influenced by this biome. We will begin working on a large end of the trimester project. Today we will work as a group to set the due dates. Please keep your eyes open for forms and check my calendar for due dates.

This week we will continue looking at forces that shape rocks and will begin discussing biomes and how the climate there effects the development of animal and plant life. We will be focusing on the arctic tundra and tiaga biomes over the next few weeks. *Keystone – We could use one more chaperone for our Keystone trip Oct. 29-31, especially a male chaperone (so Ms. Embry doesn’t have to sleep in the boys’ dorm). Our previous volunteer has a scheduling issue and may not be able to join us.

This week we will finish up our study of early earth history (planet age, earth layers, plate tectonics) with a quiz on Thursday. Students should re-read their material (paying special attention to the words in bold) and answers to the questions in our packets.
