Several students are missing required forms for our Keystone Science School trip. Please be sure your student has the following turned in:
1. Bright Green permission form
2 Adams 12 medicine form - this needs to be turned in even if your child does not require medicine while we are on the trip. Just write "No Meds Needed" on the form and sign and date it.
3. KSS medical form
4. KSS risk release form
5. Check for $195 made out the Stargate School.
Not sure if your child is missing a form? Contact Mrs. Falace and I will give you specific info of which forms still need to be turned in. All forms (especially medicine and Adams 12 medicine form) must be turned in no later than Wednesday, Oct. 28.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Writer’s notebooks were due today. Hopefully you have seen your students writing in these a few times. Writer’s notebooks will be due on the last Monday of every month. These due dates are also posted on my web calendar for the entire school year. Students should also be working on book project #1 as it is due Monday, October 5th. Last week we started reading Hatchet and Brian’s Hunt. Students worked in groups Thursday and Friday to compose their own stories of survival and then present them to the class. We have just a couple of groups left to present their stories today. This week we will complete some vocabulary work activities involving the first few chapters of both books.
MATH: We will continue to reinforce multiplication facts with timed tests three days this week. Students who score 95% and higher on three consecutive tests will be exempt from taking multiplication and move on to division facts. This week, our class work will concentrate on prime and composite numbers, square numbers and square roots of numbers and factor strings (or factor rainbows as they are called in the lower grades). Students will have homework related to each day’s lessons and it is always due the next day. If you are unsure of the homework please check my web calendar or your student’s planner for details.
THEME: We started a very quick review of Colonization last week and will spend one or two days this week finishing that up. We will move into pre-revolutionary war discussions and events that led to the Revolutionary War. We will also start our discussion and activities related to inventors and inventions.
LANGUAGE ARTS: We will start reading Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen today. Students who have read this book will read Brian’s Hunt in its place. We will also be doing an author’s study based on Gary Paulsen and his writing. Writer’s notebooks are due next Monday, Sept 28. Students should also be working on completing book project #1, both reading, and project.
MATH: We will continue to reinforce multiplication facts with timed tests three days this week. Students who score 95% and higher on three consecutive tests will be exempt from taking multiplication and move on to division facts. This week our class work will concentrate on factorization of whole numbers, prime and composite numbers, square numbers and square roots of numbers. Watch for a family letter to come home today. Please read it with your student and then initial their planner so I know you saw the letter.
THEME: This week we will be completing a quick review of map skills, latitude and longitude, and how to locate places using both coordinates. We will also review colonization and start talking about events leading to the French and Indian War.
