The Constitutional Convention and the three branches of government is our next unit of study. We will also finish our study of the nervous system this week. Please be sure your students are getting ample rest and eat a good, nutritious breakfast every day for the next 2 weeks. These two things will help your students do the best they can on CSAP testing over the next 2 weeks.

Happenings Next Week
By Barbara Falace on 2/15/2008

We will begin our study of the respiratory system next week.  Students took a test on the circulatory system on Friday.

Our field trip to the Museum of  Nature and Science was fun and very informative.  After lunch my group and I spent time looking for the little gnomes hidden in some of the mural paintings.  We successfully found 6 of them.  Thank you to Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Huppert for going with us and being great chaperones.

I will be out of school on Friday.  I am attending the Beyond Giftedness conference in Arvada that day.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Trimester 2 Project
By Barbara Falace on 2/8/2008

The trimester 2 research paper is a joint Theme/Language Arts project.  Each student has a topic that was approved through their Theme teacher.  The breakdown of due dates and actual research and writing of the paper is being done in Lang Arts class.  We have access to the computer lab during Theme so some class time will be spent on research as well.

Students will receive a Lang Arts grade and a Theme grade for their project.  The Lang Arts component will look at mechanics of writing and grammar, spelling, general organization of the content, and correct citation of works used.  The Theme grade will be based on comprehension of topic researched and depth of content studied.

January 28, 2008
By Barbara Falace on 1/28/2008

It is amazing to me that this is the last week of January.  It feels like we just returned from winter break.  The instructors form the Denver Museum of Nature and Science did a fantastic job presenting the circulatory system and the heart.  Students were very attentive and asked very thoughtful questions.  The DMNS instructor was very impressed by the student's depth of thought when asking questions.  We will continue or study of the circulatory system, heart and blood this week.  We will also be assigning our trimester 2 project soon.  The details will be spelled out in a separate blog entry.

Happenings in the New Year!
By Barbara Falace on 1/11/2008

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held this coming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Your child brought home a confirmation slip in their Monday folder this week if a conference was scheduled.

The January Scholastic book order is due back to school on Tuesday, Jan. 15.  There are some excellent selections in both the Arrow and Tab book clubs.  If it is convenient, you can return book orders in Monday folders when they come back on Tuesday.

We will be starting a unit on body systems next week.  The circulatory system will be studied first.  On January 25 the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will be coming to Stargate to demonstrate heart dissection to all 6 of our classes.  Then on February 15, the 5/6 classes will be going to the Hall of Life at the DMNS.  W ...
