LANGUAGE ARTS: Writer’s notebooks will be checked for the first time this Monday. It is so exciting as a teacher to see kids writing without being told to do so AND being excited about writing. The expectation for writer’s notebooks is two entries per week, 20 minutes of writing per entry. This week is a short week but there will be a vocabulary assignment related to our reading of Island of the Blue Dolphins.
MATH:  Look for a family letter to come home with your student today. Please read it and sign their planners so I know you received it. The letter gives important information about what material will be covered in Unit 2. We will be working on estimation skills, addition and subtr ... Read More »

Parent-Teacher confirmation slips are coming home in Monday folders today.  We tried our best to honor everyone's requested time but not everyone was able to receive their first choice.  All of our conferences are scheduled back to back so please be prompt.  If yu can not keep your appointed time please notify your child's homeroom teacher immediately.  Every effort will be made to reschedule your conference at a more convenient time.

LANGUAGE ARTS: It was great to meet so many parents of my Lang Arts students. Thank you for taking the time to come to Curriculum Night. The students received their Book Project Packet instructions on Friday. Many of the students have made their first book choice, had it approved by me and have started reading. The first book project will be due October 13. We will start the novel Island of the Blue Dolphins on Monday. There will be reading assignments for homework this week. We will also continue to study complete subjects and predicates in sentences.

We are moving along with our study of geology. We will be learning facts about The Earth’s structure, how scientists study the interior structure of the Earth and then get into the specifics of rocks, minerals, earthquakes and volcanoes. I look forward to seeing you all at Curriculum night this coming Thursday (Sept. 11) 6:30-8:30 PM. Please remember this is an informational night for parents only.

Your student’s Monday folder will have several important papers in it. There are 2 permission slips to be signed, my personal lending library agreement and one from the school library. The Stargate library permission form is to allow your student the ability to check out books with a more mature theme. There is also a form for parents to sign enabling them to volunteer throughout the school year. The scholastic book order is due back to me by Sept. 5. The last form is a homework assignment that is to be done together with your student. It is a scavenger hunt using the Stargate Community Handbook. It will help families familiarize themselves with Stargate and Adams 12 policies. This assignment is due back to school on Sept. 8.

I know this is short notice but this was announced while I was gone.  Any 6th grade student interested in running for class representative for our class should prepare a short speech about why they would be the best person to be our class representative.  We will have class elections on Friday.

Class representative will attend student council meetings during their lunch period.  They will be part of the decision making process for activities and service projects that affect our entire school.

Since this is short notice, I will notify all students in class tomorrow and give them until Friday to prepare a speech.  If students are prepared with speeches tomorrow they will be able to present them.

Many, many thanks to my awesome students for their exceptional behavior while I was gone.  I received a glowing report from Mrs. Lineham about her 3 days subbing for me.  The students will be rewarded on Wednesday with a special treat from me.

We are finished with ERB testing and now will complete a few assessments that are specific to the 5/6 team.  Any student who missed any section of the ERBs will have the opportunity to make these up this Friday.  We are also doing some fun team building and getting to know each other games and activities in between testing.

The students are working on a newspaper all about themselves this week.  There is a place on the paper for each student to attach their photograph.& ... Read More »

Welcome to an exciting new school year.  It was great to see so many of you at meet the teacher night.  I am excited to start with students on Tuesday.

I will be gone from school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.  I am leaving my students in the very capable hands of Mrs. Meg Lineham.  I really hate to be gone at the beginning of the school year and usually do not miss many school days during the year.

I am traveling back east with my entire family.  We are going to witness my brother get married on Aug. 22nd.  He is 48 years old and for just that long has told everyone he was a confirmed batchelor.  He met a wonderful woman who had the amazing ability to change his mind, and those b ...
