Mrs. Hahn is contacting parents about our Holiday party. It will be held Friday, Dec. 21 at 1:30. During the party the students will be exchanging their Secret Santa gifts and revealing themselves to each other. I can't wait to see who can keep a secret the longest. I'm betting that they will all know by Wednesday who has their name! Mrs. Hahn will be calling for donations of paper goods, goodies and drinks.

By now you've seen the strange contraptions being made out of a wire hanger. Your students are being inventors and coming up with new inventions or improving existing ones using the wire hanger and only 3 other materials found at home. These are due in class on Wednesday, Dec. 19 along with a short write up about what it is called, how they came up with it, what materials they used to build it and what is is used for. We have been using class time to work on this and will continue on Monday if there is a need. The students will present these starting Wednesday.

Last week the students asked if we could participate in "Secret Santa" as a class. I agreed as long as they spoke to parents and it was also okay with their parents. They all said it was okay with parents wo we went ahead and drew names.
Here's how it will work: We will do our "Secret Santa" activities the week of Dec. 17. Every day everyone participating can drop a small gift or an act of kindness for their secret santa. These should be small homemede items or very inexpensive items. At our holiday party each person participating will bring a gift for the person they picked. It should be wrapped and labeled with the person's name from your secret Santa. At the party we will reveal ourselves to our Sec ...

The students will be assigned a small project on Monday. The due date will be the following Monday, Dec. 10. They will need to pick an inventor to research (someone they are interested in). They will have to create a bulleted fact page, bibliography page, and a short essay on the life of their inventor and that person's inventions. This is not as detailed as our theme trimester project was. We will also have time to do research in class using encyclopedias and the computer lab. Then they will briefly get to present a few facts and and an invention from their particular inventor.

My class will be going to the Book Fair Blizzard on Tuesday, during Theme. If you would like to send money with your students, they will be able to purchase books at that time.
There is also a community event this Thursday, Dec. 6th. The PSC will be sponsoring Holiday Bingo. It should be fun for the whole family. Dinner can be purchased in advance and will be provided by Fazoli's . In exchange for bingo cards, please bring a new or used item of men's clothing, underwear sizes l, xl, or xxl, hats, scarves, gloves, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. These will be donated to the organization Colorado Friendship, which provides hot meals and clothing items to area homeless people.

It is really hard to believe that one-third of the school year is over. It seems like we just started the year. With the start of a new trimester, we can look at new beginnings and a clean slate as far as starting over. Please help your students remember to turn assignments in on time. Checking planners nightly will help keep them organized and prepared.
Everyone did a great job presenting their projects before the Thanksgiving break. We will continue to move forward with our study of the American Revolution and also learn about inventors and their inventions. There will be a short project assigned at week's end related to inventors.

Happy Friday!
Mrs. Episkopos would like me to remind you that if you sent medication to KSS with your student now is the time to pick it up from the nurse's office. We are not allowed to send medication home with students. It must be given to an adult.

The first trimester ends on Tuesday, Nov. 20. That means that one-third of the school year is behind us. We have been giving presentations in language arts and theme. These will all be wrapped up on Tuesday. The second trimester starts on Monday, Nov. 26 and with that there will be a switch in the specials rotation.
Please also keep in mind the homework policy and help your student remember to turn in assignments on time. Remind them as well that they should be writing assignments in their planners daily.

A very heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to the parents who went to KSS with us. The trip would not have been possible without parent chaperones. The kids and teachers had a great time and appreciate the fact that you took time away from jobs and family to join us. Again, THANK YOU!!!
Another huge THANK YOU goes to the parents that planned, organized, and helped make our Halloween party a huge success. We all had a great time and are looking forward to the next party.

Here are some handy suggestions before we leave for KSS on Monday.
- Try all your clothes on before you pack them to be sure they fit. You may have grown out of them since alst year's KSS trip.
- Bringing expensive cameras to KSS is not a good idea. The disposable cameras work great, especially outdoors.
- Sleeping bags and pillows should be put in a large trash bag to ensure they don't get wet when being carried from the bus to the dorms. It is also a good idea to bring an extra large garbage bag for the trip home, in case the first one gets lost or destroyed.
- Please label ALL belongings with your student's name. It is amazing how much stuff gets misplaced.
- Make sure you have everything that is on the KSS equipment list. They are the experts at this and know what the students need to stay ...
