Literacy:
The last day for literacy is this Friday, May 21st. I have truly enjoyed working with your child in literacy throughout this year. Please have them keep reading and writing this summer to keep these skills sharp!
Research reports are due Friday. Your child may be bringing this home if they have not been keeping up in class. Please check your child's report for a title, indentation of each paragraph, and spelling/grammar/punctuation.
This week we will finish our study of Tall Tales. We have enjoyed reading about many larger-than-life fictional and legendary heroes from across the country.
There is neither a homework packet, nor spelling test this week.

Math:
Monday – Unit 11 Assessment – no homework
Tuesday – Using a factor tree to find the prime factors of a number; and finding the greatest common factor and the least common multiple of two numbers – no homework
Wednesday – Finding the number of ways in which a sequence of choices can be made; using tree diagrams; and finding probabilities in “equally likely” situations – no homework
Thursday – Modeling and solving problems involving ratios of part of a set to the whole set – no homework
Friday – The last day for math is this Friday, May 21st. We will be having a Math Game Carnival. If your child would like to provide “carnival” sacks such as popcorn, circus peanuts (the sugared kind, not the real-high-allergen type), or any fun treats, please let me know via email or your child can let me know during class.
I have enjoyed working with your child in math throughout this year. The best way to help your child mathematically this summer is to keep on practicing those math facts. Working through the rest of the math boxes in EDM 5 Unit 12 would be a good review.
Have a great week!

No reading log. Please be sure your child is reading to complete their book review project due this Wed., May 19th. A guide was sent home to help them write this review. Please email me if your child does not have it.

This week in math:
The last day for math is this Friday, May 21st. I wish to thank all of you for your wonderful support throughout this year. I have really enjoyed working and growing with your child in math! The best way to help your child mathematically this summer is to keep on practicing those math facts, telling time on an analogue clock, counting change, and cooking with your child to have them practice measurement and capacity.
We will be dividing decimals, exploring capacity, and volume.

May 17 - 21
This week in literacy we…
-read about the tall tale characters such as Pecos Bill, John Henry, and Old Stormalong. Then we wrote down exaggerations about each character. Finally, we watched a video about them.
-on Friday, we had cinnamon rolls and chocolate milk in celebration of reading 200 books this year.
Have a great summer and keep enjoying your love of reading.

May 17 - 21
This week in math we…
- identified geometric solids and constructed three dimensional polyhedrons.
-solved cube-stacking problems and learned the formula for the volume of a rectangle.
-discussed and practiced subtraction and addition of positive and negative integers.
If you are interested in being more familiar with Singapore math, I’d recommend ordering the 3A and 3B Singapore math workbooks. You can find them on the Borders website.
Have a great summer!

THIS SUMMER: Please have your child read and write as much as possible to keep those skills sharp. In addition, here are some things you can work on to help him/her be ready for our new Singapore Math curriculum next year: 1) Memorize addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. 2) Have them count money and figure out change when they buy items. 3) Tell time and figure elapsed time on an analog clock. 4) Measurement – have them help cook in the kitchen, or if you have projects going on around your house, have them help measuring. One easy way to keep their attention is to give them problems while you are driving, whether it is to the store or on a long vacation.
