Wow! I can't believe the first week of school is over. The kiddos are doing an AMAZING job. I think we are in the process of building a great community!!! I'm very excited for what's to come!
We will continue our placement and ERB testing next week. Our goal is to place the kiddos in their math and lit classes as soon as possible
Due to peanut allergies and other medical concerns this year, I would greatly appreciate it if you can let me know what type of treat you are providing for birthdays. I just need to know the day before. Thank you so much for your help!
Curriculum Night for 3/4 is scheduled for September 10th from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm. There will be a general session in the Multi-Purpose room from 6:30-7:00 pm and then you will meet with literacy and math teachers from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm
Some announcements from our librarian, Mrs. McPherson:
The Used Media Sale (paperbacks, a quarter; hardbacks, etc, fifty cents) will end on Wednesday, August 27.
The Founders Conference is on Saturday, September 13. You can view the schedule on-line on the planning wiki: http://stargatefoundersconference.wikispaces.com/Conference+Schedule. In addition to the educational seminar during the day, there will be an all-school celebration dinner and square dance, with local caller Charlie Robertson. Registration information will be on-line next week. I will be happy to answer any other questions.
I always have work in the Library for anyone who is interested in volunteering. Also, the catalog for the Library is on-line, via the link on the Library home page, and can be accessed 24/7.

- decorated our nametags and created our calendar squares for August
- talked about schedules, rules and procedures
- took a word meaning test for literacy placement
- gave a handwriting sample: 3rd graders print; 4th graders print and cursive
- completed our 2008-2009 time capsule questionnaire
- read Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches and discussed the moral of the story
- illustrated our hopes, fears, ideas, etc for the coming year
- wrote I AM poems
- read The Book of Bad Ideas by Laura Huliska-Beith and created our own class book of Bad Ideas
- took math logic assessment
- took writing assessment
- took ERB assessments
- began cursive: 3rd graders learned lower case "a" and "d"; 4th graders reviewed upper and lower case letters
- began water unit with a class scavenger hunt called Water Wise
- began Colorado History Unit with a scavenger hunt of our Colorado History textbooks
