Mrs. Bustamante’s Homeroom
- Began the human skeletal system with its five functions (jobs).
- Began to learn the scientific names of the bones and common names.
- Colored coded bones on the human skeleton to be used later in comparative anatomy.
- Observed “real” bones from the grocery store, fossil bones, and some bones found on the prairie.
- Practiced using a skeleton to give the scientific names for the bones, also the common names.
- Did a science experiment showing how bones protect the body.
- Will do an experiment showing why bones are round shaped.
- Will use some pictures of dinosaur skeletons to do some comparative anatomy.
- Will make a replica of a growing bone, and a model of the spinal cord.
- The owl pellets have arrived! This will be the large activity for this unit on the skeleton.
Mrs. Bustamante’s Literacy
- Handed in questions from the first two chapters and handed in the vocabulary activity—graded on a rubric.
- Literary device: simile-defined, discussed, located in text, and explained as to why a writer would use such device. Will begin to look at the literary device personification
- Wednesday prompt, rules for plural nouns, and analogies done.
- Did some thoughtful thinking between what is happening in the first two chapters and how it can connect with your own life. Must say some of the connections are excellent!!
- Completed our vocabulary activity, began vocabulary for the next chapter Petang, and began to read the next chapter Petang.
- Will write a news paper article about finding the Calusa cave.
- We are completing our personal narratives today.
- No Homework this week.
Mrs. Bustamante’s Math
- Review Least Common Multiple, Greatest Common Factor, prime and composite numbers.
- Worked on identifying the Rules of Divisibility—this will help them when factoring numbers to their primes.
- Learned about exponents, bases, factor form, exponential form, and standard form. Did LOTS of practice on all of the exponent skills.
- Learned to factor numbers to their primes, write in factor form, and then in exponential form if it applies.
- We practiced some problem solving techniques, and I gave them a problem to do and then write about how they solved the problem. I will be do more of this problem solving. Ask about “Joe” in Indiana and why he is so important to writing about math.
- We will soon begin fractions and decimals.
- No homework this week.
