Homeroom Happenings

Homeroom:

Tuesday, June 3 we will clean out our desks. Please send an extra back pack or bags to school with your child so that he/she can get everything home easily.

Field Day is Wednesday, June 4. Please be sure to apply sun screen prior to coming to school; we will be outside all day. Students are allowed to bring their sunscreen to school, but may not share with anyone. Please also remember to send a water bottle to school that day.

End of Year Party info was sent home last Monday... if you are interested in helping out, please contact Lori Bender or Diane Colgan. We are ordering pizza for the class that day and early dismissal is at 11:30am.

Theme:

End of the year wrap up. Students will be cleaning out their desks, filling out memory books and completing end-of-the-year surveys.

Homeroom:

Bunk with the beasts was a HUGE success! Thank you to all of the parent chaperones and the parents who stayed to help serve dinner Friday evening.

End of Year Party info was sent home last Monday... if you are interested in helping out, please contact Lori Bender or Diane Colgan.

Theme:

State Fair projects are due on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, with food for this day only. Parents may come to our presentations on Thursday, May 29. We are also inviting the 1/2s.

In theme this week we will:

Continue our study of the solar system and approximate distances between the planets measured in AU.
We will attend a retirement party for Ms. W on Wednesday. If you would like to send a thank you note or small gift with your student on Wednesday, I will make sure that she receives it.
FINAL EXAM for the North East states WILL BE THURSDAY, MAY 22.
Friday will be our overnight field trip! Please look in your child's weekly folders for important information regarding this field trip.

State Fair projects: This is extensive, so please make sure your child has begun to put this together. The State Fair will take place on the 28-29th of May. Please check 3-4 document links if your child did not bring home the project requirements.

NE States Final Exam will be on Thursday, May 22. This test covers the location, capital, and abbreviation for the twelve northeastern states we are currently studying (yes, spelling counts!) A study guide was sent home; it can also be found under documents on my webpage.

This week in theme: Mr. Jim Paradise will be our guest speaker on May 5, 2008 to share his expertise on space with the students.

Also in theme we will:

Continue our study of the solar system
Further exploration of the northeast states ~ taking a closer look at Connecticut & Deleware

Fieldtrip forms were sent home for our upcoming trips to the Denver Art Museum & Denver Mint trip and our Slim Good body fieldtrip. Please be sure to fill out both sides of the yellow permission slip for these trips.

We are half way through the trimester. Please make sure you are checking your child's grades on Power School and encourage your child to keep up his/her efforts in doing quality work and turning assignments in on time.

In theme this week we are continuing our study of the North East states, focusing on Pennsylvania and Ohio. The final exam for these 12 states will be on Thursday, May 22. Students will need to know where each state is located, what the capital is for each state and its abbreviation. A study guide can be downloaded on my webpage under "documents."

In science, we are learning about some of the important astronomers in history such as Aristotle and Copernicus, and Galileo. We watched a video from Magic School Bus called Lost in Space. And finished our Solar System facts posters.

On Tuesday, April 22 we will celebrate Earth Day by watching Dr. Seuss's The Lorax and making mud we can eat~yum!

The space stations projects are due on Wednesday, April 23. Come by and see all of the creative works ~ located in the 3/4 hallway...it's out of this world!

I hope you all enjoyed a restful 3-day weekend!

I am excited to announce that the 3rd and 4th graders at Stargate raised over $3,300 for Read to Feed! We are now deciding on how to spend the money in order to best benefit Heifer International.

Our overnight to the Denver Zoo is approaching. Please be sure that you return your signed permission slips, PLUS a check for $35 made out to Stargate to cover food, activities and lodging. These are do no later than Friday, April 18. I will send slips home on Wednesday 4/16 if your child is missing his/her form or money.

This week in theme:

We began our study of the North East states! We covered Maine last week, and will study Massachusetts and New York this week. ALSO, each student was assigned a state to research for our upcoming State Fair. Packets were handed out on Monday. This is a very important project with several components. Please help you child begin research soon!

We will continue our study of the solar system, taking a close look at "the universe'

This week, we will continue our study of the solar system. We will being the week by looking at what astronomy is and continue to study the planets, space, theories of the ancient/modern astronomers, and do several simple experiments that demonstrate facts about the concepts we will be studying.

Space station projects are due Wednesday, April 23. You can find a description of the project under my "documents."

Reed to Feed collection from our classroom was $210.60! Thanks to everyone who participated! We will vote this Thursday on what livestock we will purchase with these funds.

Please remember that Friday there is no school due to a teachers' work day.

Un-birthdays

There are no homeroom birthdays in the month of April. If your child has a summer birthday or a birthday that falls during a school break and would like to have them recognized on their "un-birthday" by sharing treats with the class you may do so this month!
