Ms. Singer’s Homeroom Happenings

November 24, 2008 – November 28, 2008

It is a short week for us as there will be no school Wednesday thru Friday. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving break!

The "Sweet Shop" is still looking for donations.  If you would like to send in any extra Halloween candy or other goodies for the prize bin, it would really be appreciated!  The students especially liked the microwave popcorn and the drink packets that you add to your water bottle.

Other donations to the classroom that would be greatly appreciated are colored Expo markers, hand sanitizer, and any board games for anticipated indoor recesses due to inclement weather.

Colorado History:

Last week, our guest speaker was impressive.  She retold the story of Aunt Clara Brown, emphasizing her impact on Colorado history and African Americans.

This week, we will continue studying the Plains Indians’ history and culture.

We have an upcoming...

Homework Assignment

Making Salt Dough

Due Tuesday, September 23

We will be making relief maps during our study of Colorado regions and need salt dough so that we can build the maps at school.

The recipe is as follows:

2 cups flour

1 cup regular table salt

2 tablespoons of cooking oil

¾ cup water

Mix flour and salt together in a bowl. Add the oil to the water. Pour the water mixture slowly into the flour mixture, mixing it with your hands until it becomes soft and doughy. The dough needs to be the consistency of “playdough” that you buy in the store and should not stick to your hands. If the dough is too sticky, mix in a bit more flour.

**Students will also need an 8 X 8 inch cardboard square.

Thank you for your support with this project!
