This Thursday we’re having an assembly. People from the Jim Beckwourth Society will be here to teach us about his extraordinary life through a power point presentation and some skits. For those who aren’t familiar with Jim Beckwourth, (including me until recently), he was one of the first trapper/traders of Colorado and happened to be African American. He led a fascinating life and I’m sure it’ll be an educational experience.
This week in theme we learned about the importance of Veteran’s Day through a video which discussed its history and the men and women of the Armed Forces. We also wrote essays about why we honor the veterans.
We’re continuing our study about the Native Americans of Colorado. The students learned about pictographs and petroglyphs. They interpreted pictures of actual pictographs and created their own using chalk and black construction paper. On Friday, they finished their Ute Flip Books.
