Welcome back! I hope your holiday break was relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks to everyone for all of the wonderful cards and gifts. I truly do appreciate your kindness.
Also, thank you to all of the parents that helped with the party. It was a lot of fun!
Well, it’s time to get back to work. It’s conference time again – January 14th – 16th. This round of conferences will be on an as needed basis. The 3-4 team has requested conference times only for those students who the teachers have a concern about their academics or behavior. If we did not request a conference but you would like to meet with us, you may request a time. Please check your child’s Monday folder for this conference request.
In theme this week we will start our unit on landforms. In addition, we will be studying explorers, trappers, and traders in Colorado History.

I WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope your holiday break is relaxing and enjoyable. Since it is the time of year to be thankful, I would like to thank you for allowing me the privilege of teaching and getting to know your child. I really enjoy each and everyone one of them.
Our holiday party is on Friday at 1:30 p.m. If you can send in Christmas-themed plates and napkins, please let me know.

· Made a book about the Utes, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe
· Made Christmas cards and ornaments to give to the residents of Elm Haven Retirement Home

Theme homework due Dec. 15th - Poster on Invention/Discovery
We are doing such great things here at Stargate! I saw many of you at the Sock-hop on Friday night. It sure looked like everyone had fun dancing, singing, visiting, and playing games. I really enjoyed it, also. Thank you so much to all the parents and families that put the event together and brought in food for the teachers.
We had a great time at the Colorado History Museum. We had a class about Ancient People which was a great reinforcement to what we have been learning about Ancient People and the Native Americans. To wrap up what we have learned about them, we are going to have Native American Culture Day on Wednesday, December 17th. Each 3/4 classroom will have a different activity such as music, dancing, games, crafts to celebrate and learn different things about Native American culture.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! The kids have worked so hard they deserved a break. The next three weeks are going to very busy with all the activities going on, so please make sure they are getting plenty of rest.
The book fair starts Friday, Dec. 5th during the Sock Hop and ends on Friday, Dec. 12th.
Please send a sack lunch tomorrow for the field trip to the Colorado History Museum.

We have a very short week so there is not a lot to tell you about. On Tuesday, we will have a guest speaker who is an archaeologist (Josephine and Samantha Martin’s grandfather) speak to our class and Mrs. Bustamante’s class.

On Monday, Mr. Cochran will be showing a safety video to all K – 4 students. This video will explain a little bit about different uniforms police might be wearing in case of an emergency at school. District 12 requires us to show this to all students.

There is no school on Tuesday, November 11th.
Friday, November 14th is the end of the first trimester. Please check Powerschool for your child’s current grades and if you have any questions, please email the teacher before that date.
Please check your child’s Monday folder for a permission slip to a field trip to the Colorado History Museum on December 2nd. The permission slip is due on Friday, November 14th.

The Halloween party and parade was great fun for all! Thank you to so many parents for your help and contributions to make our party successful. The students had a great time playing Halloween hangman, drawing various Halloween figures, Mad Libs, and having a dressing race. In addition, we all enjoyed a wonderful assortment of food, especially cookies hand-decorated by our own classmate, Audrey Femrite.

Halloween: The school-wide parade will be held in the gymnasium from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. on Friday. All parents are welcome! We ask that that parents do not follow their child to the classroom because we still have learning time in the classroom. The students may wear there costumes all day. Please follow District 12 policy on what kind of costumes/dress is allowed. Please see your child’s Monday folder for further information or email me if you have any questions.
Our Halloween party will be from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. We are looking for some old, big, baggy clothes and shoes for a game. If you have some, please put your name on them and we will return them to you next week. In addition, if you would like to donate plates and napkins for the party, please let me know.

Vaughan’s Voice – October 20, 2008
Halloween: Our Halloween party will be from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. There will be a school-wide parade followed by games and food in our room. The students may wear there costumes all day. Please follow District 12 policy on what kind of costumes/dress is allowed. Email me if you have any questions.
Our field trip to the Broomfield Water Treatment Plant was a very educational experience. It reinforced what we had been studying about the water cycle and how water gets from reservoirs to our faucets in our homes.
What we did last week in theme:
Water simulation – ask your child how we simulated a water treatment plant and cleaned dirty water.
Read chapter 2 of our Colorado history book and talked about how an archaeologist uses observations and inferences to understand items they have found
