This week we will continue with Unit 11. Students will work with division number stories along with multiplication/division facts. Most of these concepts are new to students so we will take our time and practice the concepts and facts various ways. I still encourage the use of manipulatives at home while completing homework if students need.
This will be the last full week of math. Wednesday the 19th will be our official last day.
Homework Home Links 11.4, 11.5, 11.6 and 11.7 are due Friday, May 14th.

Home Literacy Math
Week of May 10th & 17th...We only have a week and a half left of literacy...and a lot to do! We will continue our "Poetry" unit, using Love that Dog. This chapter book will act as a mentor text by giving the students many ideas of how they could write their own poetry. Students will read in both small groups and individually, while answering comprehension questions. In writer's workshop students will review the 6+1 traits of writing, write a variety of their own poetry and finish publishing their other writing. We will be having an end-of-literacy celebration, "Poetry Cafe", that families are welcome to attend. Students will each do a reading of their favorite poems (one of their own and one by another author). It will be on Wednesday, May 19th, from 8:15 to 9:10. Homework: 20 spelling points and the reading log (due Friday). Lastly, students will be given a reading comprehension test (DRA) and an end-of-year writing prompt, so...any extra volunteers would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you for a wonderful year!

Week of May 10th & 17th... Wow, we only have a week and a half left of math! We will finish up Unit 3, Linear Measures and Area, by developing their concept of area more, using number models to calculate area, and introduce how to measure diameters and circumferences. We will review on Thursday, and then take the written assessment on Friday. The study guide for this test is on my home page, under documents. They will take their last math fact timed test this Wednesday...multiplication for most and division for some. Homework: Home links 3.7 & 3.8, and the fact log is optional...due Friday. Our last few days of math class, during the week of May 17th, will be spent wrapping up the year and playing the games that they've learned throughout the year (outside games if weather is nice!). Please feel free to use the remainder of their journal to complete over the summer :) Thank you for a wonderful year!
