This week we will be learning about different producers and consumers in a community as well as the difference between products and services. Last week the children made houses and formed neighborhoods, and this week we will be creating a town using our town buildings. We will also be learning about the election process and voting on a town mayor. Parent/Teacher Conferences begin this Wednesday. Please look for your conference day and time in your child’s Weekly Folder. The students will be dismissed at 11:30, and there will be no school for students on Thursday or Friday. I look forward to visiting with all of you soon!

It was so nice to see most of you on Curriculum Night. Hopefully you all gleaned insight into what your child’s time at Stargate looks like. Thank you all for being so friendly and supportive… and for having such great kids!
This week in theme we will continue focusing on communities. The students will learn the relationship between the home, town, state, country and continent in which they live. We will also learn the importance of our homes.
This year we will be doing Wednesday Workshop during theme time on Wednesday. The students will be doing character education, and we will begin creating characters of our own. This will be a fun creative outlet for gifted students!

This week the students will begin switching for math and literacy. The kids have been very excited to find out who their teachers will be! Your child’s placements will be going home in his or her Monday Folder. Please hold on to these so that you will know where to go on Curriculum Night which is this Tuesday. There was some confusion about the times (on my part as well!), but it will begin at 6:30. I look forward to speaking with all of you and answering any questions you may have about the curriculum, volunteering, schedule, etc.
This week in theme we will finish up our Friendship Unit and begin our unit on communities. The kids will take a pre-assessment to find out what they know about the communities we live in. We will discuss council members, the importance of a community’s laws/rules and what types of buildings and workers a community needs.

This week we will finish up testing students in order to place them into needs-based math and literacy classes. Your child’s placements will be going home in next week’s Monday Folder. Please hold on to these so that you will know where to go on Curriculum Night.
This week in theme we will begin our Friendship Unit. The children will learn about what makes a good friend and how to resolve conflict in a positive way. We will be doing activities, reading books and having discussions on rights and responsibilities. Also, we will make a class constitution, write a friendship poem and make a quilt. On Wednesday the students will be paired up with another student of the opposite grade. They’ll be doing a friendship inventory and a “trust walk” together.
