Calendar:
September 7 – Entertainment orders are due.
Any unsold Entertainment books need to be returned to school on this day.
September 14 -Curriculum night for 1st and 2nd graders, 6pm to 7 pm.
September 15 – Last day to order yearbooks for $45.
September 20-2 Talent Show Tryouts at 3-4pm
September 24- Teacher workday- No school for students.
September 28 – Talent Show at 6:30.
The students did a great job creating their 3-D model on “Responsibility”. We will vote on which model represents “Responsibility”.
In theme we will start a new unit which is neighborhoods and communities. Theme homework is due on Thursday. For homework, please have your child bring a magazine to class. They will be cutting out pictures that relate to the community.
Every other Wednesday, our class will be visiting the library. This week we will be going to the library. If you child has checked out a library book, please have him/her bring it to class on Wednesday.
Please remember to sign up for Email Blasts-on the Stargate website. On the home page, click on the “Parent” tab and then “Newsletter Management.” You may then choose the teacher(s) that you would like to receive email blasts from.
This week we will be starting student of the week. The student of the week will get an All-About Me-Tee -Shirt poster to complete at home a week before he or she is the student of the week. The student needs to complete the poster and bring it back to school to share with the class. The student of the week can bring in a picture book to share and I will read the book during read aloud on Wednesday. The student of the week will also take home the classroom book, “Mrs. Ramos’ Class, Mrs. Ramos’ Class what do you see” to share with his/her family. It must be returned by Friday so the next student can take it home the following week. The student of week will also be able to have lunch with me on Friday.

Literacy:
In literacy this week students will be reviewing in phonics and spelling the short a sound. In grammar they will be learning what makes a sentence. In writing, students will continue learning how authors get ideas on what to write.
In reading, students will be developing fluency and reading strategies for both decoding and comprehension.
Homework: The students will be getting a list of their spelling words to study at home. The will have a sheet that includes spelling activities to help students study their words. They do not need to hand anything in to show that they studied their words.
Due on Friday is the reading log. Students need to read at least 40 minutes per week. Parents please read over the reading with your child. There are suggestions to help your child while he/she reads.
Math:
In math this week students will continue learning about 0-10 numbers. We will be count with 10, compare two numbers within 10 and count backwards from 10 to 0. This unit is a review for the students so we should be finished with unit 1 by next Monday.
Homework: Remember math homework is due the next day! On Tuesday, students will get worksheet Number +1 due on Wednesday. On Wednesday they will get Trick Doubles due on Thursday and on Thursday they will get Look. These are the same due on Friday.
