Final Grades

First Trimester Grades are closed.  This week teachers will be finalizing our Power School grades on our end.   Starting this week look at second trimester for current grades starting this week : )

Scholastic Book Fair Coming

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming next week.  Our class is signed up to visit the Fair on Monday afternoon before pick up.   Families are also welcome to come in after school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week till four.  They will also be open in the evening from 5-8 p.m. on Monday-Wednesday.  Students can also go during lunch or from 7:30 a.m. till the first bell rings in the morning all next week (except Monday).   Buy a book from the book fair and give a gift that gives twice: raises money for the school library and a gift of knowledge for that special someone.   Students are welcome to bring money on our day we visit or just make a 'wish list' for when you come in to visit together.

Weekly Theme Update

This week we will be working on Motion in our Balance and Motion unit.   We will be looking at things twisting through the air, rolling down things and spinning on points.   Look for paper 'twirly birds' coming home today and ask them what they learned in class.  The kids have been having a great time learning about this fun hands-on-unit.

New Trimester!

This Monday is a start of a new trimester, also meaning a new round of specials.   This week we will have Computers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.   On Tuesday and Thursday we will have Spanish.   We have specials for six weeks before we switch again.   The new trimester means a clean slate too!   Report cards will be coming out after the 10th with the adjustment to the new Power School software.   Thank you for your patience during this time : )

Yoplait Lids

Keep those Yoplait lids coming.   We are still collecting till break!

Chick-Fil-A

This week I hope to have things worked out for the Chick-Fil-A award.  I am trying to see if they can come after math time for a late breakfast.  I will let you know when and what time, so stay tuned :)

The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Over break I was pondering how wealthy we all are with our things, family and friends.   This year I am trying to do what I can to make a more positive impact on the Earth (like recycling those hordes of Christmas cards I have collected over the years and reuse all those gift bags: ).   This year I want to go even further and have people buy gifts for those who are in need in other countries.   Over break I was told about a great organization called the Heifer Project (www.heifer.org) that enables people to buy items for people in third world countries that help them to become more self sustainable (for as little as $10).    In lieu of gifts for me (if you were thinking of going this route : ),  I am hoping you would have the kids buy a 'gift' that keeps on giving off the registry I created at their web site.  I would be much appreciated for all of you helping us make this positive change in our lives.   This is a reputable organization, registered with the BBB and has won many prestigious awards for what they do.   I am also pondering if the children would like to take it to the next level and give gifts to the Hiefer Project instead of giving gifts to each other for our Secret Snowflake exchange?   That way they can feel the strong feeling of giving and make a positive change instead of getting more stuff : )  Check out the website and let me know your thoughts on this in the Weekly Folder this week.   As always this is just an option and I welcome your thoughts and opinions : )  We will also be doing a project for a local impact this year too... stay tuned for more to come!

Hope you all had a great break!   Glad to have you all back safe and sound!
