Weekly Theme Update
Last week we went over our family trees (up to grandparents and other immediate family).  The kids really enjoyed seeing me draw mine on the board and we all enjoyed learning more about each other's families and how to make a family tree.  They all did a great job on this activity!

This week we will be continuing our unit on the Family.  We will be taking the information we gathered last week for homework and constructing our Family Shields in class.  We will also be reading stories about families and how great they are.  This week students will be asked to bring in a Family recipe for homework.  Please make sure they write (not create) these on their own.  Remember also that I will be copying these and making them into a classroom Family Recipe cookbook that we will all get a copy of, so make sure to pick one you are willing to share : )

Next week will be share your favorite recipe with the class.  If you can send in food for this great event next week, please let me know.  I am hoping that maybe we can have about 5 different family recipes a day.  We do have a fridge if you need to send it in at the beginning of the day and I can reheat it.  Or, if you have the time and can come in during Theme (1:50-2:45) let me know.  We will also be in need of forks, plates and napkins.   Please let me know if you can help out and I will get you signed up!!!!

Curriculum Night Thanks
Thank you all for coming out on Tuesday night and joining us on Curriculum Night.  It was great seeing you all and sharing with you about our routines, our space and all the great things we will be learning about this year.  Don't forget to look at the 1-2 Curriculum File attached to the bottom of my home page for lots of great information.  Thank you all that signed up in my room or other rooms to help out volunteering this year!  I would also like to thank all of you that helped out by donating some small items for the classroom.  The kids are appreciating the new games and I am loving that they can clean off their desks!  Thank you all again for all your help!

Yoplait Lids and Cancer
It is that time of year again and the Yoplait yogurt lids are PINK!!!  Every year our school collects as many pink Yoplait yogurt lids to help raise money towards a cure for cancer.  Please send in any of these you have at home.  Every one that we collect helps make a difference.

October Count
Did you every wonder where our money comes from for our school?  Our money comes from the state, which comes from you collected in taxes.  To determine how much money we get, the state looks at how many students we have enrolled in a window of time.  This window of time this year is September 28th through October 6th.  It is highly important that we try our best to all be here during that time frame.  We appreciate your help with this to make sure we get everyone accounted for!

Email, Email and More Email!!!
Do you have those weeks where your email mailbox is over flowing?   Well last week I had one of those weeks.  I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for emailing me.  It helps me to know what is going on and to answer any of your questions.  Communication is key in any relationship.  I also wanted to apologize if I was not timely in any of my responses.  I pride myself to check my email every morning, lunch time, plan time, at the end of the day and sometimes when it is super busy to even check it from home at night.  Weeks, like last week, I do a sort of triage, where I speed read to determine which ones I need to answer with a quick reply right then and which ones are read only, junk mail or I can answer by the end of the day.  My goal is to reply to your email by the end of the day, but know, there are weeks like last week and it may take me up to the next day to get back to you, but I will get back to you.  Thank you for your patience and understanding with this!

Scholastic Book Orders

This week in your Weekly Folders, you will see our first set of Scholastic Book Order catalogs.  Orders are due back on Monday, October 1st.  Every order helps bring more books into our classroom for your child to enjoy!  Thank you for your support!

Website Tip of the Week
While I was reading my novels I wrote for Literacy and Math weekly updates I realized that you can make the text wider, instead of long, skinny and really long.  If you just click on the text it should widen it.
