Welcome!
I
would first like to start off by welcoming everyone to the new school
year. I am looking forward to having a
spectacular year teaching your children and working with all of you this year. This
year we have lots of great things planned to learn, which we will go over on
curriculum night on the 18th. Stay tuned for weekly updates online at my home web page posted on the first school day of each week at the end of the day. Here's to a great year!
Who is Mrs. Huey!
This year I am blessed with
having many families whom I already know in the class this year. For those of you who don’t know me…
Mrs. Huey grew up in Vermont. She came out to Colorado to go to college and to continue
being a ski instructor. Mrs. Huey has a
B.S. in Earth Science and her elementary licensure from UNC. She started teaching here at Stargate six
years ago. Mrs. Huey thoroughly enjoys
teaching here at Stargate due to working with such eager students, supportive families
and a fantastic school with a great mission.
Drop Off and Pickup
This year we will have a new area to line up first thing in the morning before school starts. Our line up area is on the West side of the building, just North of the fenced in area of the playground. School starts at 7:55 in the morning and students need to be lined up and ready before that. First graders and new parents are advised to come early and park to help students find their way the first week. After the first week students will be expected to line up on their own.
The pickup area for first and second graders is in the driveup loop just South of the building. We will be lining up on the sidewalk just East of the front main doors. Parents who want to park need to come early and park in the spots between the school and the church. Be aware that you can not park or get out of your car in the loop! Students will be escorted to their car by a teacher once you pull up to the curb. We will not be putting students into cars that are not pulled up to the curb for their safety and ours. You don't need to pull up close to your child's line on the sidewalk. You can use the whole span of side walk in front of the school. Just let a teacher know who you are picking up and we will deliver them to you. A good time to come through the loop is at 3:10 as well, for the congestion tends to clear up by then. Be prepared to either park the first week, have lots of patience and possibly drive through the loop a couple times before you can pull to the curb.
Several of you have more than one child here at Stargate. As of right now everyone will be staying with their teacher at pickup time. Only older siblings with a younger sibling in Kindergarten will go to their younger siblings Kindergarten class (located East of where we are) at pickup time. All others, until further notice, will stay with their teacher!
Snacks Needed!
Every day students will need to bring a healthy snack for their morning snack/recess time between classes. On occasion students will forget their snack, and thus I keep a stash of emergency snack brought in by the parents. This year, Student of the Week, will bring in a healthy snack for the week for emergency snack. Emergency snack is usually a bulk item you can get at Sam's or a Costco type of stores. Some ideas for emergency snack are gold fish crackers, pretzels, fruit snacks, cheese and cracker packets or any other bulk item you can find. We will not be signing up students for Student of the Week (unless someone has a birthday before then) until Curriculum night on the 18th. Thus, emergency snack is needed to tide us over until then. If everyone can send in some snack this week and next, it would be much appreciated!
Specials
This week we will have Music on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and P.E. on Tuesday and Thursday. Every six weeks we will have two specials that we alternate daily (in school days, excluding holidays and weekends). Check my calendar on my home web page for what specials we have weekly! I will notify you in my weekly news when we are about to change specials.
Weekly Schedule
Please see my documents area for a general weekly schedule. We are not having a formal Literacy and Math class until we start switching the kids around the third week of school. This week we will be doing lots of get to know you activities and starting some of our assessments for Literacy and Math placements. We will also be getting to know our daily routines as well as rules and procedures in the class and for the school. At the end of the week we will start to meet other classes and get to know them into next week to prepare switching around for classes. See the attached weekly schedule as to when we will have morning snack/recess, lunch, and specials. Remember, Wednesday is always early release of 1:30! There is homework for the parents and the students to fill out and return Friday morning.
Contact Information
As
always I have an open door policy for any questions or concerns that might
arise over the year. The best way to get
in touch with me is through email or to leave me a voicemail. I will always check my email and voice mail first
thing in the morning before school starts and I pride myself in getting back to you within 24hrs. Pickup/dropoff is not a good time to speak with me, for I am busy making sure everyone gets picked up by the correct people. If email or voice mail does not
meet your needs, you can also set up an appointment with me to meet before or
after school. My contact information is:
