No School Friday

Don't forget there is no school on Friday for Teacher Inservice that day.   Please make sure to turn in all Literacy and Math homework in on Thursday!!!!!

Weekly Theme Update

This week we are working on mapping and more mapping.   In class today we learned about a coordinate map grid.   On our grid we made a key explaining our map symbols as well as their coordinates on the grid (D-4).   Today I sent home some homework to practice this new skill.   For homework (due next monday) they get to make a map of their bedroom.   If they can an include a key explaining their symbols in addition to a compass rose that would be perfect.   This week we will also be learning what our city, state, country, and continent are.

On Wednesday, in honor of Constitution Day, we will be doing a lesson learning about what the Constitution is and why it is important.

In the Weekly Folder (white), you will see that with our Communities Unit, we will be having Junior Achievement coming in to work with us.   They will be covering the following: 'How Does a Community Work, Sweet 'O' Donuts (product, needs and wants), The Role of Government, A New Business, and Money Moves', over five visits.  I will let you know when they will be starting to visit us in our classroom : )

Missing Assignments

Last week I worked very hard on checking all work in for Homeroom and Theme thus far, for we ended our Friendship and All About Me unit.   I also spent the time to visit each child and find any missing assignments in their desks and folders.   Many are caught up or are only missing one or two things.   Those who were missing a lot of papers were sent home extra copies today with a note in their Weekly Folders.   If this is your child, please help them get caught up and turn in their completed work in by next Monday at the latest.   After that I will place zeros for these missing assingments.

Power School FYI

If a child is missing an assignment it will be blank on my side and a dash on your side, when viewing it online.   When I change the blank (dash) to a zero it changes their summative grade.   Until I zero out the assignment, Power School does not include it in the summative grade.   The way to fix this is to get the work in : )   The less blanks, the less zeros, the better the grade.   Thanks for helping me, help your child stay on top of things : )

Mystery Donated Books????

A couple weeks ago I was brought a grocery bag of childrens books from the front office.   Whomever donated these books to the classrooom-Thank you!!!!!!   Let me know who you are too, so I can personally thank you too!

Scholastic Orders

This week in your Weekly Folder you will see a packet of Scholastic Book Orders.   Mrs. Bamesberger will be in charge of this, this year.   Scholastic orders are due back by next Tuesday, the 23rd.   This is a great opportunity for you and for the classroom.   Even my son and I shop from Scholastic often.   He loves looking through and picking out books.   Thanks for helping support our classroom Library get more books!

Website Tip

Did you know you can order lunches online through the school web site?  Go to the 'Parents' tab on the main page and go to the 'School Store' tab on the bottom of that menu.   From there you can order school lunches.   If your child comes home with a stamp on their hand you can take care of it that night with out sending a check and worrying about them loosing it, or you forgetting.

You can also check what is for lunch that day under the 'Students' tab under 'lunch menu'.   That way you can decide if it is something they like or if you need to pack them a sack lunch.

Final Thoughts

Thank you all for coming to Curriculum Night!   It was so nice to see you all again and to get to show you our class.   I hope you enjoy this nice three day weekend and the still lovely fall weather.   Have a great week!!!!!
