Theme Update
This week is the last week of our Earth, Moon and Sun unit. Today we will be reviewing concepts to prepare for our unit test on Thursday. I have attached a review sheet to my homeroom web page. I have also cleaned out their folders of any information sheets we went over in class for this unit to help them review.
On Wednesday, during Theme, we will be taking our mid year Bullying announomous survey in the computer lab to see how we are doing in this area. We have had several monthly classes in this subject area as well as some impromptu classroom meetings when things arise and we just want to make sure everyone is feeling safe and happy here.
Thursday will be our Unit Test on the Earth, Moon and Sun. Friday we will have Fun Friday during Theme time.
Next week our Moon Brochure projects are due as well as any bonus project we decided to do for extra credit. We will be presenting our projects next week during Theme and parents are welcome to come. Just let me know ahead of time so I can let the front office know that you will be coming in. Look in this week's folder as to what day your child will be presenting next week!
Fun Friday
Yes, this Friday is Fun Friday. Look in your child's Weekly Folder as to how they did earning their stars this time around. Our next Fun Friday will be on March 7th.
Scholastic Orders Due
Scholastic book orders went home last week. If you would like to order anything this month, please send your order form in with payment by the end of the week! Thank you for helping us earn points for new books for our classroom : )
Skate City Night
Next Monday, January 28th, is Stargate's Skate City night. I thought it would be great fun if we could all go and do a little laughing and some skating. Case and I will be there with bell's on and hope to see many of you there as well! See you then!
Classroom Parties
I need a couple more people to sign up for our Valentine's party on Thursday, February 14th. If you haven't had your turn to come and help out with the classroom parties please let me know a.s.a.p. I need to get these spots filled up a.s.a.p. so let me know by next Monday if you can help out!
Also, we have a parent who will be sharing with us Mardi Gras and we need a couple people to help out on that day, Tuesday, February 5th. If you can come help us out during that day, during Theme time please let me know by the end of the week as well. Thank you all for helping out with the field trip, parties and any volunteer needs that arise!
Continuing Education
We are so blessed that we are not only encouraged to take continuing education here at Stargate, but Stargate also has the funding for us to take classes as well. This year I was only planning on being out for the CCIRA (Colorado Council International Reading Association) conference in February, but I have had a couple more come up that I need to go to. Last week I went to part-one of a two day conference on Twice Exceptional Gifted Students. On February 6th I will be going to the second day of that conference. On the 30th I will be going to a conference to learn how to give a spelling/phonics assessment called DIBLES. Learning about this assessment will give me another tool to assess my students abilities in this area. Then, the CCIRA conference will be February 7th and 8th (also on the 9th, but that is Saturday). The good news is that I already have a great sub lined up for all of those dates (Mrs. Ramos) that has worked in my room before and knows my routines and expectations very well, plus the kids really love her. I know it can be hard having me out of the room (perhaps more for me than the kids : ) and I thank you for being supportive of me being out of the classroom during these times. Doing this allows me to be current in best practices, to have those enlightening moments as well and to better our teaching, thus improving your child's education here at Stargate. I can't wait to come back revived, full of new ideas to share and try out! Thank you again.
