Mrs. Huey Out on Monday

I will be at a conference for Twice Exceptional Students on Monday.  Hopefully all will go as planned in the novel I left for my sub : )

Theme Trimester Project

Last Friday I sent home the information for the Moon Brochure Project which is this trimester's Theme Project.  While going over the details with the kids I realized there were two things that were needed for this project.  Thus I added on a couple more point items: what to do when you go to the moon (real or imaginary) and what can you see on the moon while there (again some reality mixed with our imagination : ).  Each item is worth an additional 5 points.  These are the required items for the project.  We also discussed some fun bonus things we could do with the brochure to give it a little more life.   Thus the following items are bonus items with points attached: -do additional research (include what resources looked up-20 pts), create a diorama (20pts), create a model (spaceship, alien or moon, etc-20 pts), bring a piece of luggage with some items you might need for the trip (be creative-20 pts), dress up (like a moon tourist, the local life, a tour guide, etc-20pts)or do a commercial for traveling to the moon (cut out a box to be the tv-20 pts with script).  These are just some ideas.  Of course this is all optional (brochure is required) to make it more fun for the kids to get into character for this project.   Please as always we want this to be done on their own as much as possible (modeling/guiding through stuff never done before very acceptable : )  This is supposed to be a fun way to show what they have learned with this unit.   The project is due Monday January 28th.  All that week the students will be presenting their brochures and anything else they did to add to the experience.  I will be sending home next week a schedule as to when your child will be presenting (during Theme) to come in and observe if you would like : )  Please email/call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Field Trip Tuesday

Don't forget that tomorrow (Tuesday) we have our field trip to the Fiske Planetarium.   Please make sure the students are dressed for the weather (walking to and from the buses) and that they have a sack lunch.   Thank you to all the parents that signed up for chaperoning.

Conferences

Don't forget that Wednesday is early, early release of 11:30.   All students left behind will be put to work dusting and sharpening pencils.   Nah, just kidding : )  On Thursday and Friday there is no school due to conferences.   Monday we have off (me too) in observation of Martin Luther King Day.  Enjoy the time off and think of me : )

Fun Friday

Yes, it is coming!   The children have been asking often if it is time and on January 25th we will have our next Fun Friday.   Stars will be tallied up and a report of how they did this round will go home in next week's Weekly Folder.

New Specials

Starting next Monday we will start with our new round of specials: P.E. and Music with Mr. O.   This also marks the middle of the year.   Can you believe we are half way to summer already!  Yikes!   There is still so much to do and learn yet!  So next week we will have P.E. Tuesday and Thursday (no school Monday in observation of Martin Luther King) and Music with Mr. O on Wednesday and Friday.  Don't forget to wear those mark free tennis shoes on P.E. days for our new hard wood floor in the gynasium!

Giving Throughout the Year

Here at Stargate we do many different things to give back to our community.  Currently the junior high community teams are running several different campaigns to give back to our community.  One group is collecting items for their 'Birthday Box' campaign.   They are collecting items that they will box up to children who don't have homes.   They are looking for anything, non perishible, that would be for a birthday: candles, napkins, decorations, plates, decorations, dry cake mixes, frosting, gift bag items, etc.  The items don't have to be complete or sealed except for the food items and perhaps the gift bag goodies.   I know I have lots of leftover party items from Case's three birthdays: plates, invites, napkins and decorations from Shrek to Darth Vader : )  So, if you have been keeping these, thinking some day you might use them, now is the time to get rid of them!   Send the items you would like to donate in a grocery bag and I will make sure they get in the right box!
